  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe you should boycott them, and run your car off vegetable oil! If you can put up with your car smelling like a chip van that is.

My car motor is not made to run off of vegetable oil. Besides, boycotts don't work in monopoly or oligarchy markets.

What are the implications of oil companies lying about oil not being a renewable resource to make it cost more.

What exactly do you mean by "renewable" in this case? I mean, there are plenty of reasons to call out the oil companies on moral grounds, but hiding the secret of making oil out of hugs and the laughter of children isn't one of them.

I think there is a way to renue oil. It involved some kind of machine which takes exhast fumes from out of the air. It was on James may's something or other.

I'm convinced.

oil is renewable now?

For around 50 years some Russian scientists have said it comes out of the mantle. Oddly enough, the researchers funded by US oil companies summarily dismiss this theory.

The recent fluctuations in oil/gas prices seem to point to an elastic supply.

I'd love to know where you read that, I assume you didn't come up with that yourself.

Autumnleaf, do you have any evidence that oil is a renewable resource? Or are we just talking about your suspicions here?

I'm not a researcher but I've seen multiple articles about it, even one from the New York Times. Google it if you really want to know about it.

^ Okay, I googled it. No-one thinks oil is a renewable resource. But some scientists suspect that there may be more oil underground than used to be believed.
the russians used to put forth at one time a theory that oil was produced from non-organic sources. namely that oil formed from carbon deposits deep in the earth's crust during the earths formation
geologists have found no evidence of this.

they have found though that oil does move, the shifting of the tectonic plates and water has effects on oil. so yeah they seem to be finding oil where it wasn't being found :p

One has to consider the motivations of oil producing corporations when trying to understand how much oil there is in the ground and under the seafloor. Oil is not renewable, but nothing says the results of oil exploration have to be released to the public. I know frontline workers in the oil industry who think, with good reason, that some very large deposits are routinely left alone after discovery, particularly seabed finds. It makes sense for oil companies to produce at a measured pace in order to keep prices up.
