eternal sin

Status
Not open for further replies.
I have come on to the forum because there is a specific question i would like to ask. I have been reading my bible and it says that blasphemy against the holy spirit is an eternal sin and will never be forgiven. my mind, when told something i must not do automatically does it from trying not to. Am i destined for hell or will god save me?

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. The essence of the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is ascribing to Satan what is the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says it to the Pharisees who ascribe His miracles to Satan. Sitting there thinking something doesn't qualify.

It's long been said that anyone who fears he has committed this sin has not done so.

I've had similar problems, worrying about all these crazy thoughts that seem to sometimes involuntarily shoot through my mind. I will have more to say tomorrow. It's 11:30 at night and I have to get up for class at 6:00, so I need to go to bed really badly, lol, I can't think straight right now.

I'll be back tomorrow. I just want you to know that you aren't alone, and you don't have to worry about it. Just hang in there. God loves you madly. God bless :)

yeah, as far as I know, it's just regular old obsessive compulsive disorder, you mentioned social anxiety disorder too. I guess they aren't necessesarily related but they do seem to go together in certain people sometimes (including me, lol).

I don't think either of us has it too seriously. Basically, it's still annoying sometimes, but I just have to set my mind that some of the crazy thoughts that come up sometimes just aren't really my thoughts, or at least not my fault. God understands what obsessive compulsive disorder is, so I'm sure He won't hold it against us.

If it gets really bad, there are medications you can take for these problems, but I really don't know enough about it to tell you anything.

Just be careful, make sure if you decide to do that, you carefully consult a medical professional about it. Some of those drugs are pretty potent and if you can deal with the troubles without them, that's probably best. It's just nice not to have mind-altering chemicals in your system all the time, lol, you know what I mean? You have to worry about side affects and drug interactions and all kinds of weird stuff. And, in my humble opinion, those drugs just treat the symptoms and not the problems. But like I said, don't take my word for it. If it gets bad, investigate for yourself, I don't know enough to really talk about it accurately. I don't want you to rush out and get all drugged up unneccesarily, but I don't want to scare you away from something that has really helped some people. So again, investigate for yourself, I don't know enough, lol.

Just ask in faith for God to help you and heal you :) And don't worry about it, that's big. Think about other things, fill your mind with Godly things, and just develop your own strategies and ask God for freedom :) He's helped me a ton.

I dont have OCD but Social Anxiety has a lot to do with obsessive negative thought patterns, among other things, and the two aren't wholly unrelated (as far as i know). I have seen a doctor about my SA and am on a waiting list to have cognative behavioural therapy and to hopefully get some medication like you talked about. i know quite a lot about it because i go on to anxiety forums (sounds like a fun place, huh), but they really do help. i havent been diagnosed for that long but have been suffering in silence for more than five years. i feel like i am finally getting the help i need and that feels great. Do you take medication or have therapy for you OCD?

God bless:pink:

I agree with what everyone has said here.. Not that you have taken the blashemy=eternal hell necessarily to literally, but you've got to ease up on yourself! you are probably not doing anything wrong at all, and the devil himself is working you into the frenzy.

Guess why I originally came here! I had this same deal running through my head for months! (uh, that doesn't mean it'll be that bad for you! )

Something that helped me to keep in mind, God knows and judges a person's heart, you can't commit unforgivable sin by trying to because your afraid you will anyways, if that makes any sense. I've actually got OCD (maybe a little like SA), one can live with it, these kind of disorders always get worse when they're diagnosed because your thinking about it more and more often, but after a while they simmer down. Meds help too. Remember God is more than rules, and committing a murder is different than manslaughter, which is different than a sheer accident. By the same token, I don't think one can sin unforgivably the way I/you fear sometimes.

As far as I can tell, the eternal sin is to die while being non-Christian, saying to God you don't need him.

Ultimately I think so to, but the Bible does have some unique (complicated) ways of addressing that in places.

I was on Paxil for just a little while, but it made me feel weird. My muscles felt fatigued. I felt drained. So I tried Zoloft for a while, but it didn't seem to affect me much, and I felt more comfortable without it so I quit. I've just prayed about it, and learned to fight the temptation to give into my compulsions. I think alot of the social anxiety is just part of my personality, I'm a little shy. Anyway, I still have some difficulties but it's alot better and doesn't really affect my life. It never really was very serious. So I thank and praise God for it :)

Dear friend,

The unpardonable sin is to attribute the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. II Corinthians 10:5 This means that every time an evil thought comes into your mind, look for (and memorize these so you'll have them handy immediately when you need them) the Bible verse that directly contradicts the evil thought. Be as precise as you can. Say the correct one out loud if possible and then do what it says. So when the thought comes to blaspheme, say what Jesus did to the devil who tempted Him:

Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.' Matthew 4:10

During these times of battle, you can read the whole account of Jesus's experience and how He handled it in Matthew 4. Ephesians 6 will help you fight as well, showing you how to put on the armor of God. Lock the thought out, but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit refers to words spoken. But be certain to take the thoughts captive so God will not be displeased.
Jesus answered him, It is also written, "Do not put the Lord your God to the test." Matthew 4:7

If you trust in Him, you cannot have committed this crime. But do take it very seriously. And just so you know, the devil tries to trick every new believer into thinking they have committed this sin so they will fail in their faith and give up on salvation. He pulls it on everyone. When this happens, just tell the cruel wretch:

It is written: For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. It's impossible to trust in God and have committed an eternal sin at the same time. Your belief in God will prove you have not done this. If ever you get tired in faith, just know that God will refresh it, and ask Him to do this. Many blessings to you.

according to many conservative christians, you can live your whole life in sin and cause great suffering for everyone as long as you repent and ask God's forgiveness before you die. God's forgiveness will wipe all sins away.

If someone isn't a Christian, this is true. People can repent before they die, because God is merciful. However, many people go on living without God, presuming they can do this, figuring when they're good and old and have had fun wallowing in sin, they will repent. And it rarely happens, because, if they're that hardened while they're young and relatively carefree, certainly they only get harder hearts with age. From a spiritual standpoint, as lightly as I'd like to put it, God is merciful but He won't be mocked. I know someone mid seventies still clinging to this idea, with a heart growing colder every year. This person has almost died, has a pacemaker, and no repentance whatsoever. Still hanging onto hope of a deathbed repentance. It's really, really sad. I am praying for this person, though.

As for Christians, there are so many verses saying we cannot go on in a life of sin. If we don't repent, God can and often does make our faith fail. He isn't kidding. Don't worry-He's well aware of the injustice of ungodly deeds. After all, that was His Son bleeding for our sins-He doesn't take the death of His Son lightly, trust me. We think we suffer at the hands of people who cause us pain, but there is no pain suffered like that of the generous and incredibly merciful God we serve.

But as for thoughts, we can always take them captive. It's in entertaining them or actually giving them creedence that we begin to have trouble. We are free to reject any and every bad thought.

Many blessings to you.
