An interesting and helpful paper:
Hello friend:
Yes, considering what the Word of God says, and what we know of the ways of God, it appears a certainty that we will all be judged when we leave this world. There are various judgments mentioned in Scripture ---some about the past, some about the present and the future; and concerning nations, mankind, and souls in Hades and in Heaven. This is just some "food for thought" here about eternal judgment.
We know from many verses about salvation that the lost souls --ones not saved who do not know the Lord Jesus personally and are not "born again", will immediately be cast into "Hades" (a detention place of torment --sheol) when they die. They will thus await the final judgment at the "Great White Throne" after the Millennium period of Christ's reign over the earth, where they will then stand for condemnation to Hell-fire (gehenna ---not a trial, but a sentencing).
Believers in Christ --real "born again" Christians (John 3; John 14 & 1 Jn. 5:10-12), will appear at the "Judgment seat of Christ" in Heaven when they leave this world, as Scripture shows, but not for condemnation, rather to manifest the good and failures in our life for Christ while in this world; and to be given rewards or to show what we forfeited, and to receive any commendations deserved. There will be rewards given in Heaven, and there seems to me to be at least four major areas of judgment or manifestation for believers: 1. How we regarded the Son of God; 2. How we regarded the Word of God; 3. How we regarded the testimony of God; 4. How we regarded the people of God; and these would each likely be in degrees. This is surely something to think about now.
It has been suggested that the common and usual ratings or degree of judgments in this world (such also as grades in school), may likely determine rewards or forfeiture in Heaven (i.e.: Very Good -excellent; Good -above average; Average -acceptable; Weak -missing important things; Poor -grace, but little effort or care). True Christians might wonder about this, and work a bit more to improve things now ---would you say?
This is just a viewpoint, and one can't help but wonder about such things considering the brevity of life. We need to know the Lord Jesus and live for Him to honor God in the little while we have ---right?
- Sincerely in Christ, [R. L. DeWitt]
