I'm not sure that's true. Male/female relationships have always had elements of jealousy, suspicion, anger, combativeness, struggles for dominance, bitterness, and emotional and physical abuse. But it was kept under wraps.

Thank goodness nowadays, women can do jobs, which were traditionally done by men and visa versa. Some men stay at home and look after their young children, whilst their partner goes out to work, nothing wrong in that.

I guess you had to be there. Division of labor between genders was just 'the way it was'. No one fought about it. Of course that began to change in the 1960's.

It was women's labor during WW2 that heralded the biggest changes in the workplace going forward. Note that the suffrage concerned voting rights, not the right to do men's work.
