• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My episode is now over! Praise God forever!

With a lot of prayer and encouragement from my friends here at CF and my family, I got through another episode before it got full blown. I went to the doctor on Wed. and he put me back on one of my meds, and took me off of the one that was causing me to lose so much weight.

Things are really back on the upside, and I want to thank everyone for all their prayers and support.

God sure is awesome, and I'm so glad to have him in my life. When I go through my downspells, it helps me appreciate the upside in life all the more. I become more appreciative of life and I know God will see us through all things, no matter how bad they may seem.

Thanks again, everyone! God Bless!

Thank you for the comment. The med that was causing me to lose weight is Abilify. Totally took my appetite and I got down to 98 3/4 lbs. I was not happy with that. I would rather be a little overweight than underweight.

I am glad that you are feeling better.

What med was it that was causing you to lose weight? My meds have cause me to gain weight. 35 lbs. It is so discouraging.

No, it was Olanzapine that caused the weight gain. Now I am on Risperidal, Effexor and Epival. I thought the weight would come off when I stopped the olanzapine but no. She (the psychiatrist) says that most of them cause weight gain. Sigh...

My med so far is Lamictal. Doctor said it is a life-changer. I am a bipolar I and my moods are so up and down, I can't hardly keep up with myself. My mind goes a thousand thoughts per second, My mood swings are from minute to minute, I don't eat, and I don't sleep. The Abilify I was taking just kept melting the lbs off me. Thank God, that's one's flushed!
BTW.........The signs of my episodes I just gave you are just the beginning of the episodes. I have learned to control them before they go beyond that. It really gets nasty if I don't get a grip. A lot of prayer has helped me through. So happy God is on my side! Thanks for commenting. God Bless!

My Pdoc helped me find a fairly weight neutral combo. I take 112.5 mg of effexor in the am (I find it stimulating and appetite supressing) and 50 mg of Seroquel at bedtime as a mood stabolizer. I seem to be getting away with this below normal dose, just enough to fend off hypomania, but I am only BP2.
We may have to increase the Seroquel later if I feel hypomania coming on, but so far, so good.

Are you taking lithium? It can be terrible for weight gain.

AngelKiss' post reminds of what we do in the Self Injury forum. We have a thread where we post when we get the urge to cut. Then whoever sees the post writes back, sends PM, and prays. It is one of the longest running threads.

Can we do the same here? When one of us feels it is coming, can he post in this thread and we all help by praying, encouraging, etc? Is this a bad idea?

I feel that is a good idea, myself. I cut loose here, myself, for when I long for support, prayer, and encouragement, I feel that I can get it here, as well as with my family and friends. For, here at CF, they have become my family and friends.
