Cost? Psh.. no. It doesn't make any difference, it could be a plastic ring from a gumball machine, who cares? It's the sentiment behind it.
My boyfriend says it could be an onion ring -.-
You get the idea
99% of the people on the street will never recognize the difference between a cheap ring and an expensive one.. the only person who will know, are the people directly involved, and they are the ones who should be placing the sentiment first -anyway-.
Money isn't an expression of love -or- committment. People can get engaged without an engagement ring for that matter.. most people wouldn't even consider it though, as if the ring on their finger is going to bind that person to them. It won't. The committment, the sentiment, is the one and only thing that truly matters.
I think the most loving proposal in the world could have the statement "I don't have much money, but I still want you to be with me forever" in it. No ring? No problem. Rings are just things, and that's all. It's a nice bonus, but in my mind, that's all it is.
I have my mother's engagement ring/wedding set, I wear it on my off-hand as regular jewelry. But, she sent me that because my father bought her a new one. Rings get replaced.. or lost, stolen, bought, given, taken away (well hopefully not! hah), you get what I'm talking about.. in a sense, the ring isn't even necessarily a bound symbol at all. It's just an object. If rings change, the -sentiment- remains.
So, "good enough" ring? Bah.. make with what you got
Granted, some girls are impressed with expensive things.. so my opinion is obviously bias. I will never be impressed by fancy stuff. Only the sentiment behind it.
