Hey guys, my girlfriend and I got engaged a week ago today! I'm so excited and can't wait for our wedding which is June 23rd 2012. We've been dating for 6 months. We've been very close friends since 7th grade though and I think that long friendship helped our romantic relationship a ton. We went to school, college, and church together. When we got to college, we quit talking a little as much because she got into the partying scene and I didn't like being around her during that time.
About 6 months after us graduating, she called me and asked if she could start coming back to church and wanted to sit with me since it had been a while since she had been. I of course said yes and our friendship picked back up, and then it lead to where we are now.
How I proposed:
She loves horses and used to do barrel racing. I took her out to a local ranch where they have horseback rides. I told her we were going to meet my mom for lunch. After I turned down the ranch road, she looked at me and said what are we doing???? I said this is your early Christmas present! She was so excited!
So we go through the riding training before we go on the guided trail. Halfway through the ride, I had a table and food setup outside. These guys in "cowboy tuxes" came up and helped us off our horses and had food grilling outside. It was really nice. After we ate, I got down on one knee and proposed. She said of course and it was just amazing! I was given her grandmother's diamonds out of her wedding ring and used them in a new band, so this ring is very special to her.
Everyone said when we started dating there would probably be a wedding and they predicted it. I have never been happier with a girl in my life. She's everything I prayed for in a girl and more. God answered every prayer. The only negative is she's trying to quit smoking, which she started while in college.
She's joined our church this week and we've started premarital counseling with our pastor. We've messed up in that we've had sex before marriage, and we've since stopped knowing it was wrong and are not doing it anymore until our wedding night. Our pastor is focusing on sex a lot and neither one of us are very comfortable talking about it. We talk about it with each other, but we don't like discussing it with our pastor. I only like discussing that with her and she feels the same.
We told him we had both messed up but asked for God's forgiveness and have stopped. Would it be wrong to tell him we are uncomfortable talking about it and would like to focus more on things such as finances, conflict resolution, kids, husband/wife roles, etc? We're 24 and 22 and both know about sex, plus those subjects I listed are more of what we want to talk about. Thanks for reading!!
