• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello All

Recently I’ve been experiencing horrible doubts about my faith. I’ve been a Christian for all my life, I love the LORD, I love Jesus, but I don’t understand this doubt. I been through most the apologetics, facts about the scriptures and so on and I believe them, they’re credible but I still doubts. I don’t understand I feel like I’m at the end of my rope. I feel like I’m failing God, failing him with all the doubt despite all the evidences and the work he has done throughout my life. I need help I don’t understand. Has anyone experienced these kind of thoughts?

Sorry Shawn I'm in a similar place right now. I though I was secure but seeds of doubt were sewn and I watered them. I don't doubt God is God, just that I'm failing Him. Maybe you are just on the verge of some more profound understanding or experience. For what its worth, Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal, then even he doubted and hid like a little kid when he heard he was on Jezebel 's hit list.

A principle of the Christian spiritual life is that periods of consolation and periods of desolation, such as you are having now, alternate.

C. S. Lewis said through Screwtape that the devils are never more frightened than when a Christian feeling abandoned still intends to obey God.

And you can't disappoint or fail God because you can't surprise Him.

As I say to others on here, make an audible act of faith, then pray that your emotions will catch up with what you know is true.

Yes, doubt is definitely something many people struggle with. Faith is about standing firm, pressing on and persisting.. which is really hard to do in this negative world!

I have days when doubtful thoughts come in or from others and other days when I just go full blown, "I can do all things through Christ" and go charging out into the world encouraging people, creating things in the face of full blown discouragement.

There are going to be only a handful of people who will encourage you and that needs to be you with Christ in prayer and bible study and fellowship with others in your local community.

Otherwise, doubt robs you of your time, creativity and helping others. Above all, it stifles your purpose in what God created you to do. That is, to use your talents, gifts to help others.

Fight the good fight of faith. Don't let the flame go out and if it does, you'll need to be lit up again by another who has a flame. Happens to me when mine goes out, my husband puts some gasoline on it and we're all good to go again.

If we're both been taken out by doubt... well then, someone else comes along and encourages you. This is why it is so important to stay connected to others who have a flame.

I don't believe God sees you as a failure. He sees you as his child and loves you despite our failures. We all fall short. Love, loves us no matter what we do. So it's not about works, it's about just resting in the love that God has for us through his son. That we are accepted and loved. This is faith.

Would you please elaborate on what this means. What is an audible act of faith? Thank you.

Considering you have OCD, what do you think is the best way to deal with these thoughts?

Here's an example. Say it out loud.

"I believe that God is in charge of everything, including this situation, and has it under control."

Thank you all for your encouraging words. Please pray for me. I fear losing the knowledge and goodness that Christ bestowed me with. I have these horrible thoughts that question him and our faith. I know that they are untrue and I need to keep fighting them. I thank you all and I will pray for all of you as well. Also just a side has anyone dealt with the obsession with converted for no reason? It’s the strangest thing
