In Western modernity the day begins and ends at midnight...
What about in Christianity, and in the early church?
At what time, or at what point does Sunday become Monday... Or Tuesday become Wednesday?
When exactly does one day end and another begin?

Ah, you are interested too.
I'd tell you if I knew.
But all I know is that early Christians didn't have time pieces to know midnight, and there are some who say the next day starts at sunset.
Modern Christians may well do things differently to the first Christians... I'm really interested in the first Christians...

Early Christians followed the Jewish tradition of the day ending and the new day beginning at sundown. That's the reason for Vespers. It comes from the ancient Jewish evening sacrifice. Over time hourly prayers were developed. But when you suppose the day begins and ends really doesn't matter. Midnight to midnight is convenient for restarting the clock in a 24 hour day.

But maybe it does matter? If a Catholic does different rosary prayers in different days... What prayers do they do after sunset on a Tuesday? Is it still Tuesday, or should they be doing the Wednesday prayers etc. etc.
Does Lent begin at midnight or at sunset?

Christians have largely relied on the cultural customs of where they live and have kept them. Before the invention of the clock, people divided the day into segments or hours. And Christians living in the Roman Empire followed the Roman method of timekeeping. Even after the collapse of the Roman Empire in the West, Christians kept using those same timekeeping methods, refining them, and with technological ways to keep track of time in the modern period we have standardized it. So we are, today, still using the method of timekeeping the majority of Christians were using two thousand years ago, for a thousand years ago.

And so the day-cycle begins at midnight, midnight is the opposite of noon--the time when the sun is [near] directly overhead.
The day, as opposed to the night, begins after sunrise; in the Roman system, the hora sexta (sixth hour [after midnight])

Maybe pray every day.

For loving God, performing Lent before you go to sleep or after you wake up doesn't matter, because God looks at the heart.
