End Times Prophecy & Puritans

What was the end time view of the Puritans? I've read that Increase Mather, as well as others, taught the imminent return (not the rapture) of Jesus Christ...is this true?

my understanding is most were post-mil with a strong historist flavor.

rapture is a dispensationalist invention of mid-late 19thC
chiliastic or achiliastic are earlier than 1700 terms

I've heard from several sources that they were mostly post-mill, which is why they had such great hopes for the new world--ushering in the return of Christ by creating a christian world.....

That theology certainly helped IMO, it was certainly very optimistic.

Sure. You'll definitely find a diversity of views on eschatology, though. Strictly speaking, Amillennialism is the traditional Reformed view, but you'll find an abundance of post-mill and historic (non-Dispensational) pre-mills, too.
