  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you guys think of this?

Damascus, Syria, and Isaiah 17

Are the end times coming, or is it a coincidence?

Hi,

I can't really imagine that there is any question of whether or not the end times are coming. That's a given. However, I'm sure the real question you're asking is, "How close might those days be?"

Nearly every generation of believers has held strong beliefs about the nearness of the last days. Mostly, I believe, because we always see the world system and mankind spiraling inexorably into the cesspool of sin and greater refusal of God's authority to rule and reign over His creation. Paul wrote of terrible transgressions being committed by men and the general approval of such things by even those who may not engage in the practices themselves, and yes, every generation has decried changes that have come to the basic rule of goodness among mankind.

I can remember my grandfather talking about corruption and crime and wickedness being more rampant in his later days then it was in his youth and I can say exactly the same thing about these days as compared to my younger days. Paul warns that mankind invents ways of doing evil and sure enough we do. 100 years ago there was no such thing as internet porn or internet scams, but today we have to warn and guard our children and our computers against terrible things that can and do happen by way of this new medium of communication that we have invented. Men have taken this new invention called the internet supported by home computers in every home and many have invented ways to use it for evil purposes. Paul was right, again!

However, in answer to the question that I think you are asking, yes, we are surely closer today than we were yesterday or last year, but there is still no indication that it is right at the door. Damascus will surely become a waste land. God's word tells us so and I believe it. However, will it be next week, next year or 100 years from now there really is no clear indication. I agree with the author that it is good to consider all these events and how they will ultimately work out in God's prophetic timeline, but they are only given as signs to bring us into the season of our Lord's return.

These leading events can take years to advance to fulfillment. Syria will rattle it's sabre and other nations will attempt to step in and deflect any outright warring and things may well settle down for a bit and then 3, 5, 10 years down the road another rattling of the sabre and possibly a soothing and settling. But yes, eventually God's prophecy will come to fulfillment and Damascus will lie in ruins and be a wasteland.

God bless you.
IN Christ, Ted

Doesn't matter any to me. Jesus said that only He knows when He'll be back. And since I'm on good terms with Jesus, I don't care! Could be ten thousand years from now, ten years, ten months or ten minutes. When He decides to come is good enough for me and I trust His judgement!

I think it's a good idea to keep an eye on Syria -- more than a coincidence. What never ceases to amaze me is that leaders such as Assad or others such as Kadaffi, Hussein of Iraq, Mubarrek, and others could care so little for their countries and citizens that they will not want the best for them. Why would anyone be concerned about an anti-Christ arriving on the scene when the world seems to be full of them.

Well said.
Thank you!

In a bit more detail...while I KNOW that He will be coming soon, and WHILE I trust in Him completely...I do not...ever...in any capacity...ever consent to any crimes or criminal acts committed against ANYONE.

This has been in discussion with others, and they say "I don't need any guns! I have faith in Jesus!" Actually, during WW2 a lot of Romanians and Polish and other "minorities" felt the exact same way. They believe in Jesus. They have nothing to fear. They don't need guns. And you know what happened.

Just because you have faith and love and trust in Him does not mean it's ok to allow "the other side" to do as they wish. Can you stomach watching a soldier from another country beat and rape your 12 year old daughter? can you see that and not have any emotion over it? If so then I really feel sorry for you.

I have faith in Jesus. I love Him. He IS my Savior. But that doesn't mean I'm just gonna throw in the towel trusting in Him to protect me and my family from any evil. Jesus even said so in Luke 22:36- "Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."

not a coincidence, the Bible is 100% correct,we are seeing the fulfillment of Isaiah 17 in Syria's bloody civil war but its yet to be completely fulfilled, many believe Damascus will be nuked by Israel.we serve an awesome God,He tells us things before they happen so that when they happen we will believe.

He did not say that, you are quoting it wrong. He said only the Father knows (Mt 24:36). God has never revealed anything to man (Mat 16:17), right?

I understand what you're saying and quite agree. I am a Christian first, and a gunowner. I've only had to pull once, on a cold November's night when I heard someone banging or kicking at the front door. I pulled on a pair of jeans and walked outside looking for who interrupted my sleep at 2:00 am. My wife, also armed, pointed out two sets of footprints on our front porch. I then started a systematic search, not noticing the cold on my bare feet. I found the first man (late teen or early 20s) crouched by the rear tire of my two door Honda Civic. I think if he would have crawled into my wheel well if he could have since the sights of my .40 Glock 23 were lined up to the middle of his forehead. His hands were where I could see that he wasn't brandishing a weapon. He started to mumble some reason why he was there but I cut him short with an expletive telling him to get out of here. Something told me to let him go. When he heard my expletive he took to running up the street. To encourage his flight, I put a Hydra-Shok behind him in a safe place in the ground so no one would be hurt. But the sound encourage him to run faster. I then looked for his partner. I yelled back to my wife on our front porch that I needed the big flashlight and then the second young man took off from his hiding spot behind my transformer. I used another Hydra-Shok to encourage him to run faster too. With no one hurt, we called the county sheriff's office and reported what we did. They asked if they needed to come out and we said no, we handled it but just wanted them to know in case someone reported shots fired in the neighborhood. They thanked us and that was the end of it. It will be two years in November, the word must have gotten out that there's a crazy old man and his wife ready to fire, if provoked.

I don't feel I need a gun but also I don't blame anyone for wanting them. I am not going anywhere till the Lord says my times up so why worry about it? He is in control so I don't need a gun or any weapon. If someone tries to hurt me then I feel sorry for them. Who can stand against the Lord?
