• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Consider whether you feel cut off from your emotions or empty inside. Feeling consistently numb or emotionless is one of the strongest indicators of childhood emotional neglect. When parents don’t provide emotional support and care, children receive the message that their emotions are not important. They may feel ashamed of their emotional needs and suppress their feelings. This emotional suppression can persist into adulthood.[3]
  • In addition, emotionally neglected children often ignore their own personality and wishes in an attempt to please their parents. In adulthood, this can turn into a feeling of hollowness or a sense of being a stranger to oneself.[4]"

That made so much sense to me. I've been empty for years and wondered why.

Can anyone relate?

The hole was never filled. God didn't fill it, therapy didn't fill it.

Its called love, When you are showed love, real love and your in need of it, then you are filled, for a little while.

But when God gives you his love because you love him with all your heart, you will always be filled complete.

He puts his spirit in you every day to give you the love you seek.

If that is true, then why did HE say of Adam who had complete unfettered fellowship with God that it was not good for him to be alone?

I was emotionally neglected by my dad, but not my mom. I realize now that I emotionally neglected my own kids (and according to my wife, am still emotionally neglecting her). I don't think my childhood experience can be blamed for my distance, though - my son and daughter in no way emotionally neglect their kids. Apparently I'm just a loser all on my own.

I never said it was good to be alone, you can be married and surrounded by many and still fell emty and alone.

I was talking about felling empty.

My advice to you is to seek God every day with all your heart, and I guaranty you, he will fill you up as he promised he would.
I haven't felt love from God in a long, long, long time. He said, "you're closed off." I replied, "how do we fix it?"

God will fix it, with some he has to put in a real bad situation to get there attention, then they seek God, then they praise God, then the spirit of God enters into them.

Others God will bless them, and they see the blessings, then they praise him, and the spirit of God enters into them.

To each there own, only God knows what they need.

You are seeking God here now, looking for answers, And God knows this, so he is already in your heart guiding you to look for him.

Like I said, Love him with all your heart, that takes a little something to push you into that, well, for some.

Some people dont want to be pushed and others dont care, but you are seeking, so this tells me you do care.

God is preparing you right now for what is next, this is why you are seeking him now.

I can relate. I can relate to the closed-off-ness, too. One thing that helped me was something I read, saying, if the door between you and God is shut, what note would you push under it? What would God write back?

We had a little correspondence like that for a time. It was better than nothing at all!

Simple. "God, why did you let me think you hated/didn't accept me for 25 years? You were supposed to be a "refuge" and haven't been. How the heck are you a refuge? Why do you let preachers preach you're a jerk (not the word I'd use...it starts with a D and ends with a K) just looking to screw me over for doing something wrong?" There are a few other questions I'd ask, and He knows what they are. I've asked and gotten NO answers yet.

What would God write back?

Honestly? I'd looooooooove to hear a reply and it had better be good.

I told God, "you have Grace, right? It says clearly, 'God's grace is sufficient...' We gonna find out if that's true or not. My days of thinking about sin, beating myself up over sin is over. You don't like it? Kick me out." He hasn't kicked me out.
