I must agree...this is pretty sad, but I'm don't think that it is time for a revolution. We still have plenty of time for the system to fix itself.

The only thing that has been happneing with Eminent domain is that the abuses have been becoming more and more blatant. And since this process has happened for quite some time, the abuses are starting to become precedent. Since the system feeds in on itself the most probable thing that it will do in the future is simply become more corrupt. I don't see how the issue is going to fix itself at this point.

Each individual state is free to enact it's own laws restricting eminent domain. The solution is to work towards the election of local and state officials who share your philosophy regarding property rights. A revolution is not necessary, just people concerned enough to vote.

SECTION 16 EMINENT DOMAIN.
Private property shall not be taken for private use, except for private ways of necessity, and for drains, flumes, or ditches on or across the lands of others for agricultural, domestic, or sanitary purposes. No private property shall be taken or damaged for public or private use without just compensation having been first made, or paid into court for the owner, and no right-of-way shall be appropriated to the use of any corporation other than municipal until full compensation therefor be first made in money, or ascertained and paid into court for the owner, irrespective of any benefit from any improvement proposed by such corporation, which compensation shall be ascertained by a jury, unless a jury be waived, as in other civil cases in courts of record, in the manner prescribed by law. Whenever an attempt is made to take private property for a use alleged to be public, the question whether the contemplated use be really public shall be a judicial question, and determined as such, without regard to any legislative assertion that the use is public: Provided, That the taking of private property by the state for land reclamation and settlement purposes is hereby declared to be for public use.

Not quite something to take up arms about, I'd think. I'd be pretty ****ed if they took my house though... but the Constitution (or declaration of independence, not really sure which :sorry: ) says that we should violently revolt against the government only if peaceful revolt is not an option, or does not work. And I really hate to disagree with Jefferson.

Besides, you'd have a hard as hell time revolting considering how few people would find this outrageous enough to actually take up arms.

Yeah, I know, I'm surprised people haven't figure this out.

Most state legislatures are drafting bills concerning the use of emminent domain... Maybe CA isn't though^_^

I'm reading the OP's article, trying to find what I should be taking up arms for? This reads like a pretty typical and fair taking, unless I'm missing something. City wants to build a new stadium, it needs to get land from somewhere, preferably within the city limits. It's not like they're making any more.

Eminent Domain is not evil, in and of itself. In fact, urban life would be fairly unpleasant without it.

If you read the Declaration of Independence, theres something that might clear this up...

"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
