A year or so ago a priest at an Episcopal church gave a talk about creativity and people to go into that fare have a very hard time dealing with reality. I can't express his idea very well, but he have several examples of people and how their life went. While Elvis wasn't one of his examples, I think it applies.
I'm also not very creative so can't relate personally to this. So I think Elvis loved Jesus as a youth. During his music and acting career last his hold on reality with the creativity he had and never got back to living in this world and integrating Jesus into his daily life. So as with all of us, I think Jesus will complete his salvation in heaven.

Elvis' mother was devout, and he was devoted to her. After she died he said that he "wanted what she had". He used to listen to radio preachers faithfully, especially Rex Humbard. Later, in Vegas, the Humbards visited him backstage, and when Mrs. H. told him she was praying for him and then prophesied that the Lord wanted to use him to reach a generation, Elvis began to tremble visibly and asked for prayer.

He became trapped in his lifestyle - his downfall was a naive trust in pharmaceuticals to cure every problem. But even late in his life, when he was doing a Vegas show once, he brought out an a cappella Gospel quartet to do a song about the Holy Spirit (Sweet Holy Spirit, I believe). The audience wasn't ready for that and seemed to have no idea what was going on, but Elvis was committed to giving God the glory.

I think he was a tender heart who ultimately couldn't cope with his own life. I hope he made it in, and I personally have peace that he did.

A friend of mine said some elders from his Pentecostal denomination went to speak to Elvis shortly before he died, and Elvis said he couldn't get out of the lifestyle of lust he was in...too far gone. I can't verify that.

My pastor went to go get his son from Evangel college and stopped at Graceland. He took the tour, saw Elvis' personal plane, the mansion... That night he had a dream. He saw Elvis in hell and he was saying, I don't understand... I sang "How Great Thou Art"...I gave to the poor...

My pastor was a prophet. He was shaken by this dream. He said he had never seen such degree of lust as he experienced on the Graceland tour.

I think it's interesting. Just how much of the world can you handle and still get to heaven?

I'm super serious, dawg. What does it matter if someone isn't christian?

Probably matters to them, I think.

On the other hand, the question about someone who obviously lived a worldly life and yet wanted to pay some sort of respect to God...was that an evidence of true faith? What is true faith? Can you live any way you want, and expect to give some lip service to God and still get to heaven, when the word of God says the demons believe and tremble?

Honestly, Elvis is in eternity and will be judged by God alone. But there are questions that his lifestyle bring that can be profoundly important to each one of us personally. The point is not Elvis, but how are we living?

Elvis was ministered to by his brother (I believe it was) a couple of days before he died. He was a born again believer who obviously got into the world and all it brings.

One who went to Heaven said that she saw Elvis and that he only sings for God.

Thank God for His mercy.

Ask that question of Jesus Christ.

You should already know the answer.

But, to attempt to elucidate...
I think Yitzchak was reflecting on the possibility of the OP because if Elvis
was saved, then it certainly speaks a testimony many of us haven't
considered.

Then when brother J.E. segued into the dichotomy between
the consequences of disobedience versus the the price of obedience,
it became, for me anyway, a much more relevant discussion,
since all of us who still live for Him yet in the flesh struggle
with this choice every day...

By your reasoning, what does it matter if we discuss whether
someone was or wasn't a Christian?

And if he wasn't saved?

For me, then I think of the verse:

"For if you win the whole world but lose your soul, what have you gained?"

In just about every case, we have both good and bad examples.

Christianity isn't the only way, buddy.

Hm...well, sorry to rain on your parade, sir,
but the King of kings and Lord of lords says otherwise.

John 14:5-6

That's all I have to say about this. If you want to argue against
the supremacy of Jesus Christ, please start a new thread.
Let's not derail Yitzchak's thread.
