A sub-topic came up right at the end of the closed EGW thread, that unfortunately got cut off due to the flaming on the other topic.

This HOPEFULLY will not get too much into the other topic. It is not my intention to promote the same flames. I realize the two topics are somewhat related, but I am putting this for informational purposes, as some might find it interesting. If the mods deem this too close to the other, they may close it.

Three books at least have been re-written for a new generation:

Education
Steps to Christ
Desire of Ages

Steps to Christ is called "Steps to Jesus"
http://www.adventistbookcenter.com/...?sku=0828013438

and Desire of Ages is called "The Messiah"
http://www.adventistbookcenter.com/...?sku=081631845X

Education is called "True Education"
http://www.adventistbookcenter.com/Detail.tpl?sku=0816318093

It should be noted this is not the first time a book of EGW's has been updated. There were two versions of the GC as well. Etc. It is just that before they were done in her time ...at least all to my knowledge.

Thanks, Tall. I wonder how the sales of the two versions will compare. Have you read any of the new renderings?

The Mods don't close threads unless flaming occurs and that is usually because a post was reported. I just wish we could learn how to vibrantly defend our positions if we must without throwing a punch in at the same time.

lol, while I might agree with you, let's not rehash it here. Or else those punches may yet restart.

We can save that for a thread worth "vibrant defense!"

Actually I have read parts of them, yes. To be honest, I do think they are for those who have a lower reading level or those who are younger, or...something.

I feel like the old folks who are used to the KJV and just can't switch. None of it sounds right!

I was quite suprised when they did them though. I can understand the need to translate from Greek to English, but from English to English? It actually does show the fact that we accept thought inpiration. If we didn't we would never do that.

I didn't see any huge cries from those worried about corruption either. I think most are just happy thinking that young people will read the books now.

Let's hope they do , and it is not just something to make the oldies feel better!

At one time I had a copy of the Steps to Jesus book...but to be honest, while I wanted to know how close it was, I had the nagging feeling that I was wasting my time reading this one when I could the original! But it was probably just my hang up.

I just hope it is not like the Message or Living Bible. They proport to make things easier, but actually have a reading level ABOVE most other translations.

Don't get me wrong, it was not quite as bad as say..the Slang Bible. That cracked me up.

Besides being out of date by the time it hit the shelves, I just couldn't ecape the notion that its only buyers would be grandparents who wanted to understand the phrases their grandchildren used.

Any Bible that has "don't waste your homies" as one of the ten commandments goes way beyond paraphrase!
