  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The county's Twitter account released a video showing elections board chairman Bill Gates and county recorder Stephen Richer explaining the issue and that uncounted ballots would be transported to a central location to be tabulated.

A campaign account for Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake sarcastically responded to the county's tweet, saying, "So the votes get to be tabulated at a second location because you guys can't do your jobs right. That makes us feel so much better."

Anything fishy happens to those ballots, it is lifelong Republican CHAIRMAN Bill Gates Biography | Maricopa County, AZ Bill Gates’s finger prints on them. Are Republicans trying to purposely taint the election because they know they can’t win? Gates creates a problem, Lake cries about it, and then Republicans have something to point to when Democrats take the state.

There are Republicans and then there are Republicans. Mitch McConnell does more for the Democrats in the Senate than does the average Democrat senator.

Who died and made you the arbiter of who is a “Republican” and who is a “Republican”?

10:30 a.m.: Techs trying to determine why tabulators not working
Maricopa County officials said technicians were trying to determine why ballot tabulators at about 20% of voting locations — about 40 of 223 voting centers — are experiencing problems.

"We have techs out there. We’re doing what we can to get them back online," said Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates during an impromptu news conference Tuesday morning.

Gates said the issues were not centered in one particular geographical area but were "dispersed" throughout the state's most populous county.

Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said the county has not experienced this particular issue with tabulators in previous elections.

County officials are advising voters to place their ballots in a secure drop box called "Door No. 3" at the polling site if the tabulator is not working. Those ballots will remain secure and will be taken when voting ends after 7 p.m. and delivered by a bipartisan team to the county's election tabulation center.

Richer said this is similar to the process used by other Arizona counties.

"Everyone is still getting to vote," Gates said. "Nobody is being disenfranchised, and we’ve got redundancies in place."

At polling sites, Maricopa County voters fill out paper ballots and then insert their ballots into on-site tabulators. The tabulators count the votes and save both the ballots and the results.

There are Americans who support our elections....and then there are Americans like Ms Lake and Mr Masters - who sow doubt and mistrust in our election system.

The average Democratic senator votes to support the Democratic agenda and bills pushed by Biden. What does Senator McConnell do that is more useful than that?

Evidently in the eyes of some, "they gave less than 100% loyalty to Donald Trump by disagreeing with him a few times over a period of 4 years, and didn't want to bend the knee & say the election was stolen in order to stay in his good graces" equates to them being "basically a democrat".

The good news is that it's the tabulators and not the ballots. The ballots still exist, so it should be possible to put them into other tabulators, if necessary.

Ran into a flaky tabulator today. Some ballots it would read just fine; others you had to turn around and finagle for it to read. Mine was one of the latter.

I would prefer to think that it's just a technical issue. It's bound to happen sometimes in such a huge undertaking.

Won't stop some republicans and conspiracy theorists from trying to spin it their way, of course.

20% of machines is not acceptable. Scanning technology has been around for decades and and one of the simplest computer programs is a mere count.

This was to be expected. Especially when the state allowed and paid an incompetent Cyber Ninja company to "audit" the last election. Expect more incompetence if confrontational instigator Lake is elected governor. It seems quite disturbing that voters would actually prefer to vote for someone who said this morning she would be their worst nightmare. I mean do all Arizona voters lick the toads hahaha?

Expected? After auditors pointed out flaws in the system, and also the questionable deletion of records, the best these people can do is have 20% of their machines break down?

Yes, it's unacceptable. Unfortunately, Murphey's Third Law seems to be a real thing. Such as the time we had routine maintenance that became an hours long saga.

Heh. Back in the 1970s, there was some town that had a recount in a close election. Except the ballot reader returned a different result every time it went through the ballots.

Yes. We mechanics understand not to "fix" something that isn't broken. Arizona hasn't even mopped up their Cyber Ninja joke yet and the next election is about over. Get used to it is my advice.

.@maricopavote has identified the solution for the tabulation issues at about 60 Vote Centers. County technicians have changed the printer settings, which seems to have resolved this issue. It appears some of the printers were not producing dark enough timing marks on ballots. 1/

This is what you get when paper ballots are required.
