  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know about how it compares in actual square miles and I've heard it's not as big as Morrowind but it sure doesn't seem as big because of the quick travel.

I'm currently playing it but not very deeply. It depends on what you like whether you will like it or not. It's very open ended and making it interesting is entirely up to you. You have to go along with the story for it to happen unlike many RPGs that put you on a rail and make you fight canned battles to get to the next cutscene.

Morrowind is about 9 square miles of landspace, Oblivion is about 16 square miles.

Oblivion is really great, the fast travel sort of ruins the hugeness in a way, but you can easily just use a horse to get around.

Plus, it's one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen.

I find Oblivion more immersive because the environment is more earth-like than Morrowind. In Morrowind, I always felt so out of place because the environment and creatures were so alien.

I agree. Although some people prefer Morrowind's alien environment.

I'm thinking about picking up Morrowind so I can play it with all the details maxed to see how it looks. I only tried it once on my old PC and it was playable but I had to keep the details down below medium. I played it quite a bit on Xbox but it didn't look much better than on my PC.

It doesn't look that great.

Download better bodies, better heads, a texture pack, and turn on quadratic lighting in the .ini file. Then it'll start looking pretty good.

Speaking of Morrowind, I might start a new game in it. I never play it right now, but I want to somehow force myself because I remember how much fun I used to have with it.

I love Oblivion. My suggestion is, if you are going to buy it, get the PC version and go to the website or google player-made mods. The things some people have done are amazing and they definitely make the game more enjoyable, fix some of the annoying bugs, and add more/better things to the gaming experience.

Ok, I've been playing this game non-stop since I got it. My question is, where can I buy lockpicks and/or how to I make them?

CJ

If you're in the thieves guild you can buy lockpicks from a man in Bruma, can't remember his name it's been a while since I played the game.

You could just go down one of the numerous caves or mines, find a goblin encampment, and loot all the lockpicks off them when you kill them, you can go in a cave with no lockpicks and come out with 30 or more.

I just got an anonymous letter telling me to meet this guy at midnight in the Dareloth Gardens in the Imperial City if I was interested in joining the Thieves Guild.

I just cheat for lockpicks, they deplete so rapidly it's ridiculous.

Here's the cheat.

During gameplay press the ~ key to bring down the console.

Type in: player.additem 0000000A "200"

200 represents the number of lockpicks you want.

Press Enter, and then press the ~ key again to exit the console.

I haven't played in a while be want to get back into it. Is it true that you have to go to jail before the Thieves Guild? Someone told me you had to go to jail and I said, "So they are only interested in thieves incompetent enough to get caught?" :D

The video card will be the choke point for you, I think. You'll be able to run it, I'm sure, but probably not with the graphics settings bumped up too high.

ATI X600, and with some minor*cough* adjustments to the games settings (not the ones you access by going to options, but internal settings a normal player should never touch) I got it to run fine. Only problem was lag when my computer had to process a gateway (I didn't have to see it, facing in the general direction when I was in the same area was enough). But I later altered code again and fixed it. Yay for programmers allowing in game coding to be slightly altered. So, I got a two year old laptop to run oblivion quite well.

I want to get htis game SOOOOO bad! Is it as awesome as Morrowind was?
Yes, you should get it. I've already wasted a couple of weeks on Oblivion, the quests aren't as open-ended as they were in Morrowind, there's less skills availible, but the sequel's better in most ways. Took me forever to beat it, though.

You won't be sorry.
