(also posted in OBOB, but I did it in here too b/c I know a few of you struggle with this as well so I would like your suggestions)

Are there any good prayers to say after seeing or reading disturbing things? I'm halfway through a really awful and horrible story for one of my classes and my soul just can't stand it. What should I do?!

Pray the Jesus Prayer. Sing the Trisagion. Get some holy water from a priest and use it - drink it and sprinkle it around your room.

Is drinking holy water common in Orthodoxy? I hadn't thought about it before, but it makes sense. (I'm knew to Catholicism, myself.)

I guess so...all I remember from OCF was the priest saying to be respectful...drinking in the morning as soon as you wake and do prayers...so I'm trying to get clarification from him if it is okay (got my bottle right here :) ) so I'm sure that it's good to do in this instance. (However, he's not answering his AIM!)

Thank you for your help Chanter. After praying, several signs of the cross, and using holy water I found Trisagion music online and looped it during my reading time. I managed to get through the story but it was difficult. This definitely was not the time to read such depressing God-less material! *sigh*
