The main reason, Revrand, that I wouldn't commune at an E*CA church; is because they are in altar and pulpit fellowship with organizations that don't believe the same as we do. Thus, they are in grave error, having taken the sacrament of Communion in a casual manner. Their numerous other errors are not withstanding.

So, does that mean that you agree with their unBiblical teachings and practices such as the ordination of women, open communion, embracing the sin of sodomy, and their dismissal of much of the word of God? Or am I reading you wrong?

What other "errors" does this ELCA espouse to your (plural your) view(s)? I know that they are the Liberal Lutheran denomination. They promote Open communion, advocate gay clergy, "ordain" gay clergy, bless off on homosexual unions, do not oppose abortion, etc. Unless, perhaps, I am mistaken in my perceptions of that particular body.

Uhm, Stude did say that there are "numerous other errors" besides the view on communion.

He said their "numerous other errors" were "notwithstanding". I take that to mean he doesn't see them as a reason to refrain from communing with them.

While the ones you mentioned are enough to sever fellowship since these things directly contradict the teaching of the word of God, there is also the ordination of women, the dismissal of much of the word of God as being not historically relevent, and their open communion with Reformed Protestant church bodies that deny the Real Presence of Christ's body and blood in the Sacrament.

No, you have it opposite. Yes, they are ample reason. My point was that they practice open communion to the point of demonstrating that the E*CA doesn't even believe the sacrament means anything, or that they don't believe in real presence any more than they do the Bible. My focus in this thread has to do with open/closed communion. Thus the many other sins of that denomination are just a greater distraction.

Virgil, the Revrand answered your question quite well. I'm content to let his comment answer for me.

I think as some people have mentioned that some groups are easier to agree with than others. I can usually talk theology pretty reasonably with most Romans. Same with the East, it's just that some of their members are very hard line with the whole Outside the Church there is no salvation (a phrase which had to do with Baptism and was reprimanded by the Pope at the time) and don't regard non-members as Christian.
