see, so it is not just the crazy and those who are attacked by demons, other people can be suicidal as well
yeah but there is so much we don't know about ppl's state of mind.

I am of the opinion that any one who wants to do this and does it, is indeed not right to some degree.

Traditionally, The Church has held that the act of suicide is denying the infinite mercy of God. The Church would deny a funeral Mass and burial because the act was seen as an act of despair.
But not anymore.

Thank God.

Yes, suicide is not always a rationally thought out act. And we don't know if, during their last breath, they repented and asked God to forgive them. If they did, and it was sincere, then they could be in heaven.

That is metaphysics.

The Church has not given everyone a blanket excuse to cut their lives short.
No. Of course not. But the Church has learned that depression, etc. Is a disease where oftentimes the person is not thinking rationally.

I think the point is: Yes, intentionally commiting suicide is a mortal sin. BUT: As, I said, we don't know if, during their last breath, they repented. If they did so sincerely, then they may be in heaven, And since we DON'T know, we cannot refuse them a Mass.

Well CC, I agree, I am just confused if a person who has sucidal thoughts is able to take Holy Communion
My own personal opinion?

Yes. Because if it is caused by chemical imbalance or whatever, they cannot really control those thoughts.

There is a difference between thoughts of suicide & outright entertaining/planning suicide.

they need to talk to their priest about it and discern this with him. as with any sin situation, the priest can help discern what's mortal.

If a person doesn't know they are in mortal sin, they should receive communion (because if you don't know you've committed a mortal sin, you aren't in mortal sin). Since I'm not a priest, I can't say whether or not your friend should receive communion, but that person should receive Communion if they aren't sure about it (when in doubt remember: Jesus is merciful and wants us to receive His grace) AND talk to a priest about all of this.
