i've been a vegetarian for a bit over 5 years now... it didn't start off as a religious 'thing', though at times while i was exploring my spirituality (tried out the buddhist lifestyle) it did take on more significance. now that i've found and decided to stick with christianity, im going to keep my vegetarianism. it's true that god gave us the earth and animals, but that doesn't mean we need to eat them. granted, there's nothing wrong with making that choice, so long as the animals are treated humainly - ghandi said that the "measure of a society is how it treats it's animals" (the lowest creatures). for me, it's enough to know that i can nourish myself without killing off animals - as long as that's true i'll stay a vegetarian. if a doctor ever told me i wasn't getting the nourishment i needed, i'd go back. just that simple for me
