• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys. I have been battling an eating disorder for about a year now. I know it seems strange coming from a male but it's the truth. I was chubby last year and decided to get in shape and was able to loose alot of weight. Now I am skinny and all i think about is food. I fear putting back on 1 pound because I fear people will start to look at me as being fat again. Im hungry all the time and I know my body is not at its "natural" weight. I beg you all for your prayers and will be extremely grateful for any of them. This eating disorder is drawing me away from God, my family, my friends, and my life. I hope I can realize that the TRUE thing that matters is on the inside and not on the outside or on the scale. God bless and Live Righteous!

Thanks guys. My biggest fear is that people have learned to indentify me by my body and aesthetics. Its like all I have now and I fear that if I loose it, I will loose the admiration of my friends and family. My thinking has become so thwarted:doh:.

I used to have a sort of eating disorder too. People thought I was anorexic.

I know what it's like, wanting to maintain a certain body image, but you have to realize that the shape of your body doesn't determine your worth to anyone. I mean, you seriously have to tell yourself, "NO, I will not believe the lie that I will lose my friends and families respect and acceptance. I am fully accepted in Jesus, and by these people I hold dear."

God told me recently not to put so much worth on humans' opinions. In the end, we are all the same. We've all got issues.

I want to encourage you to look at yourself in a different light, not by appearance so much as by what kind of person you ARE. Your strengths, your talents, etc.

Yes, take care of yourself. Eat right, exercise, but don't let that become your god. It won't satisfy you. At your age, I thought being skinny, a size zero, would mean that everyone would like me. When I didn't get all the attention I thought I deserved. I gained twenty pounds, then twenty more. And people still tell me I'm skinny.

Body image changes. Your true worth does not. Whether you are chubby or skinny, you are worth a LOT to your friends and family and God especially. They want to see you happy... and healthy. And since this isn't healthy, you can do something about it, and gain some muscle weight and even a little fat. Fat is good in moderation! :)

Do your family and friends realize this is happening?

And..have you considered getting professional help?

Great advice choir. Its good to know Im not alone.

You're welcome. And always remember you are not alone. Everyone experiences an extent of this type of problem. Some just not as severe... some people may even have worse thoughts and problems. Yet we can all look to God and be rescued just the same. :)

 plenty of guys have eating disorders (and girls too sadly :( ) While I didn't have a disorder, I probably got close to borderline in my obsession over what I ate. But I got over it. You will too.

Don't give up, there is light at the end of the tunnel :) you'll get past it.

Eating disorders are more about control rather than food. I think you are in the clear and maybe just overreacting a little.

And I don't think its strange. Its normal for guys to be concious about their appearance just as much as girls are.

I kinda know what you mean. Struggling with weight problems and being concerned about your appearance is something difficult to go through and get over. I'll be praying for you.

I hope you can overcome this obstacle and that things improve for you. :)
