  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay yes, I confess I waited until it was in the cheaper theatres. Did anyone see it? I had some strange reactions to it.

The whole story was very didactic. It was great for helping the viewer think through their own life; but there were times I felt I was watching a training film.

The scenery was beautiful enough to give anyone a peaceful life.

There were several exchanges of diety identities.... sometimes praying to God, sometimes praying to a contemporary female, and treating both as the same thing. I felt like I was being prepared to understand training film #2, on universalism. Did anyone else have that reaction?

A few weeks later I read the book. The book is much better than the movie.

In the book she goes into depth with her thoughts and feelings and the movie feels superficial to me... I still enjoyed it, but I am liking the book much more.
Ha ha, that is what they always say. It seemed like there was so much potential to develop the relationships she had with people. I wonder what the author thought of the movie.

Like others I had read the book and looked forward to the movie which doesn't quite capture the depth of this autobiographical journey. Yet, Julia Roberts is always great to watch and the scenery is lovely. Best to me was when she pets the elephant. I enjoyed that and her comedic reactions. All in all I thought the first part much more interesting than the romance at the end. I won't be renting the DVD and surely not buying it when it comes out.

Best to me was when she pets the elephant.

I also enjoyed the elephant in the movie. I saw the movie first and then read the book. The elephant was not in the book. Also the romance in the book was better. Perhaps because it was more developed.
