I was just thinking about this. It has been so long since I have attended a church service on Easter that i can no longer remember when.
Around 1984, I attended my usual chuch, a united methodist church. The pastor, who was evolving into a crook and someone I could tolerste less and less, spdnt the Sunday whining and berating the congregation in regards to those who attend church ONLY at Easter.
I , like a few others, found this offensive as we were there Every Sunday ! So, I suggested an alternative : don`t go back at all.
The next year, I attended Easter at the Unity Church. The service was inspiring, thought provoking, meaningful. First time after a lifetime of attending Easter services that had ever happened. And the mood was very happy, celebratory. There was a photographer doing photos of everyone who wanted. The pastor was talking to everyone, offering blessings, prayers, and he closed with a message of God`s enduring Love for His creation.
So, I went back the next year. This time, not so good. The photographer was there again, but with a costumed Easter bunny. The pastor, poor guy, was beginning to suffer from dementia, maybe off his meds, so the sermon was a random meaningless discharge that failed to capture Easter. And, worst of all, his wife, in her part, spoke of spring, the arrival of life and the celebrations with the "fairies and pixies of the forest."
So, I left I decided not to waste any more Easter Sundays in churches anymore. Have been better off since.
