THE SACRIFICE
This is the old story that will never grow dull. For ‘twas there in Jerusalem on a hill called “The Skull”.
The Creator of all, hung crucified, - dieing,
While His Mother stood by, helpless, - crying.
O how could it happen, O how could this be?
O why was He there, nailed to that tree?
Three years midst this people He’d openly walked.
From healing, doing good, He never baulked.
He’d healed the sick and raised the dead,
Opened blind eyes and the hungry He’d fed.
But mankind just wants to do their own thing
And lovingly to their sins will cling.
Now days before He’d been welcomed as King
But leaders, afraid - loss of power would bring.
So they plotted His death, for they loved their power.
Then arranged with Judas to find the right hour.
With disciples at Passover to Jerusalem Christ went.
Where a long day of celebration and teaching was spent.
A beautiful Passover day made complete,
When Jesus washed the disciples' feet.
Then at twilight with Disciples, to Gethsemane went,
Where Jesus much time in deep prayer spent.
Near midnight it was that Judas drew near,
Leading a mob with sword and with spear.
Bound and before the High priests’ He was taken,
Mocked, struck and accused with false accusation.
On the murder of Jesus their hearts were bent.
Then in early morning to Pilate they went.
Many false accusations to Pilate they made.
But Pilate could see through their false charade.
“No fault I find in this man” he said.
But the crowd just wanted Jesus dead.
Pilate would release Him, but a tumult did fear,
Could put an end to his great career.
And the crowd cried out louder “crucify him”,
“For this man before you, He claims to be King”.
Now Pilate you see he feared the mob,
For he could easily just, lose his job.
So then without any further delaying,
He washed his hands before them saying,
“Innocent I am of this just mans blood”, he said
So now you just do, what you will, instead.
“His blood on us and our children be”.
The crowd cried out in response you see,
And that curse hangs over them to this day.
So we have to be careful what we say.
He then with self-preservation driven,
To the soldiers, Jesus then was given.
And having made our Lord to strip,
They flogged Him, with a Roman Whip.
A scarlet robe on Him did place.
They spat on Him and struck His face.
A crown of inch long thorns was made,
And on His head it then was laid.
“Hail King of the Jews” they mockingly said,
Then struck with a rod driving deep in his head,
Those inch long thorns, with pain He was rent,
This done to He that with love was sent.
And then without any further delay,
Near mid-day it was and they lead Him away.
A torturous walk midst mocking and shame,
Bearing His cross and in great pain.
By many of His followers now forsaken,
To Calvary’s “Skull Hill” he then was taken.
A crowd then gathered round about Him,
As to that cross the soldiers bound Him.
Through his hands and feet they hammered those nails,
While some onlookers mocked and others wailed.
Then to the Father Jesus called out,
“Father forgive them” He cried out,
“For they know not what they do” He said,
Those soldiers were acting, you see, in our staid.
Our sins it was which held Him there,
All our punishment He did bare.
But it only applies when we give our heart,
To He who was always there from the start.
He paid the price of our redemption,
But we must serve Him in faith and mention,
To all who will listen and by faith accept,
That Jesus our God has paid the debt.
Three days and three nights in the tomb He lay,
Then God raised Him up on early Sunday.
A type of the raising of all who believe.
So friend please now, will you Jesus receive.

John 3:14-18 NKJV
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
