  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Luke 16:29-31 . . Abraham said; "They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them. If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead."

The man, with whom Abraham spoke, called him "father" and he called the man "son". So it's my guess that the man was related to Abraham.

The New Testament hadn't been compiled yet when Jesus told their story so it was appropriate at the time that Abraham direct his son to the Old Testament; which even to this day is a valuable evangelistic tool.

Anyway; my point is: if someone refuses to accept the book of Genesis that the cosmos-- all of its forms of life, matter, and energy --is the product of intelligent design; then it would probably be futile to invite them to church Easter morning to hear a sermon about Jesus Christ's crucified dead body restored to life.

A change has come upon the former rich man. Now, when it's too late, he remembers duties which he should formerly have shown to his relatives.

The damned in hell's repentance is too late.

A second petition the wretch sends across the chasm. He wants Lazarus returned, as a spirit from death, to warn his brothers, lest they share his fate.

Where faith has been discarded, unbelief is rife. When God's Word has been declared insufficient, there spiritualism is hailed.

Abraham so gives him information. God"s Word's doctrine's only safe norm. Moses and the Prophets were accessible to the brothers, they were read in the synagogues on the Sabbath. Let the brothers seek for the truth there, nothing more would be needed. If the brothers won't heed Moses and the Prophets, then there's no more hope.

The Word's a lamp unto searchers' feet.

☆ Hell's real. Its torments are terrible. No salvation from tortures. Hope forever gone. ☆

Abraham is a 'spiritual father' to Jews - they are in that sense his 'sons' - I do not think its an actual relation

Inviting people to an Easter Sunday service is easy. Good music, happy news, pancakes.

What about Good Friday.
"Good Friday" is bogus. Jesus died on Wednesday. Friday to Sunday morn does NOT equal 3 days & 3 nights.

People are misled by the "Sabbath" statements in this story. There were actually TWO Sabbaths that week - the regular weekly Saturday one & the "High Sabbath" of the 1st day of passover after the paschal lamb meal as proclaimed in Ex. 12:16. Thus, people accidentally believe Jesus died on the day before the WEEKLY Sabbath, when He actually died near the beginning of the HIGH Sabbath.

Well, what about Good Friday? What are you looking for?

personally, I don't observe it, nor Lent, Maundy Thursday, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, nor any of that other RCC man-made stuff.

And, BTW, the anniversary of Jesus' resurrection, the TRUE Easter, this year will fall on Monday, Apr. 22, which happens to be my 71st birthday.

My question was as to why people don't tend to invite others to Good Friday services. Not about whether or not such services should exist.

I never heard of any church serving pancakes on Easter, but that looks yummy. For me Easter food is the chocolate shop's bunnies, chicks, and eggs.

Easter music is always great too. So are the Easter lilies that decorate the sanctuary.
