CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Early voting, IMHO, offers the best opportunity for an informed election.
It's worth noting that the calls against it are coming from decidedly liberal publications. That point was apparently not missed by the author(s) or your article, as evidenced in the concluding remarks:
I wish the calls to cut back on early voting were merely partisan. But I fear not.

I might argue the "decidedly liberal" tag you put on them for I see the HuffPo, Mother Jones and the Nation as being decidedly liberal, but instead will settle for links.

The act of early voting itself doesn't concern me...if everyone were honest (however we know that's not the case)
Since there are dishonest people, I do have concerns about fraud opportunities surrounding both early & absentee voting.

No ID is required for absentee ballots which go out in the mail. Of course, sending the ballot to the voter's address of record is its own safeguard.

You should be familiar enough with the Texas early voting. It is not only mailing in a ballot, but also where you go to a polling place and do the very same thing you do on election day - show up, show your voter ID, sign your name and then vote the ballot.

I voted no. Deadlines are a necessary fact of life. We schedule our activities around them every day, be it getting up, going to work, a meeting, an anniversary, or whatever. Deadlines help us establish our priorities, both individually and as a society.
The only value I see in voting early is maybe as a convenience for those who have already made up their minds how they are going to vote, regardless what information comes to light in the interim. But "convenience" has never been the utopian ideal many make of it, often making our lives more complex in the process (among other things even less agreeable).
But the good salesman will always attempt to get their customer to make a decision as quick as possible, which I'm sure has its parallel in politics as well.
The only value I see in voting early is maybe as a convenience for those who have already made up their minds how they are going to vote, regardless what information comes to light in the interim. Note that I didn't say early voting in my earlier response ... I specified absentee balloting.
Early voting at polling places should be subject to essentially the same safeguards as election day voting.
