This is my first thread since I joined and I hope this hasn't been done before - I did try searching and couldn't find it.

What is your earliest memory?

Mine is being bathed in the kitchen sink, it is more the sounds of my toys and toe nails clinking on the metal sides that I remember but I must have been really young, possibly still a baby!

Slightly older, but under 5, I remember riding my bike with stabilisers and falling off a ledge into rose bushes and getting prickles all over me. My friends asked if I was OK, and I said "Get my mum!"

It's interesting the things we remember. I remember pushing my baby brother in a swing and his first birthday, but I always remember waiting in the hospital waiting room with my grandma when he was born - which meant I was 3. I can't remember anything before that.

I remember chasing rabbits around in our back yard when I was very little. :D I also remember picking blueberries in our back yard, my parents teaching me how to swing, and my Dad bringing me ice fishing and showing me how to skate while I was there. I remember how huge the garden seemed when I was little and I thought it was like a jungle, lol. But there are too many to say right now. :)

I was probably around three, maybe two going on three, and I can remember walking with my grandma and aunt, holding their hands, and they were swinging me back and forth and I fell and skinned my knee lol.

Other than that, that's the earliest thing I can remember, to my knowledge. I do have some memory of my grandpa walking me around his neighborhood, and my grandpa died when I was two, so I am not sure if that is more of me thinking up something I was told, or if it is an actual memory.

Oh dear, they must have felt guilty about that!

That's tricky, I have a photo of me in the kitchen sink so was worried that I remember the photo, and not the memory. Which is why I focussed on the sound which didn't come from the photo.

I met someone who claimed to have remembered being born, but I suspect whether he was telling the truth, or just being provocative!

:) cool thread and some interesting first memories.

I too remember quite a bit (most of it because it wasnt appropriate for children, like parents fighting and what not) but one memory was my third birthday and had a party with a baby minnie mouse pinata...which had been sitting in the sun for a while so the chocolates and candy all melted together...but when i hit it with the stick the diaper broke open and all the melted candy fell out in a gross way. I remember being upset and running to my mom all grossed out. lol

Oh, right. This brings memories. I remember being in a hospital when I was very young, maybe 4 or 5. Maybe even less, I don't know, I just remember eagerly waiting to get out of there. :muahah:
And I remember a nurse taking my blood one night and me walking out of the room when I shouldn't... lol.
It was an awful time.

Oh dear, they must have felt guilty about that!

-Hahaha yeah they did! Especially since we were on a trip my parents didn't even want me to go on to begin with. They felt so bad hahahaha.

That's tricky, I have a photo of me in the kitchen sink so was worried that I remember the photo, and not the memory. Which is why I focussed on the sound which didn't come from the photo.

-Unless you have talking photographs! ;-) Lol see I don't think there any photographs of us, but maybe my mind recreated it from stories I heard...hmmm...the mind is a tricky thing!

I met someone who claimed to have remembered being born, but I suspect whether he was telling the truth, or just being provocative!

-I definitely think he was just being provocative!!! Hahaha and if he was telling the truth...well then I think he has us all beat!:p

that is funny Andrew. My first memory is being bathed in the sink. I don't have many other good memories I remember though from back then. I started a diary when I was 10, so I have a lot of good ones from that time. :)

I guess the traumatic stuff often leaves more of an impression on us.

I think you may be right!

My first (pleasant) memory is of seeing a stray dog look both ways before crossing a road when I was about 3 - I thought that was really smart :) Also around the same age watering the garden with my sister and laughing so hard because she accidentally mixed up her words and said "I'm going to put a piece of water on this drop of garden". (I know, simple things please simple minds...!) And when I was a bit older, maybe 4 or 5, realising that different nationalities speak English with different accents and making up a story for our German friends about how they found snakes in their car and thought they were the "vindshield vipers" haha!
