  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Culture plays a big role in this too. My dad lived in Peurto Rico for years and said little girls always had their ears pierced at birth. My SIL is from Bolivia where it's the same thing and is dying to pierce her baby girls ears but has to wait until her 2nd set of vacinations in order to have the Dr. do it.
Still, I'm born and raised in the Midwest USA and I think that I would pierce my little girls ears as soon as I could too. There's no way I would let some teenager at Claires or the piercing Pagoda do it with one of those guns though. I've had a problem with aht myself (Though to be fair it was cartelidge.)

I forgot about my son getting his ear pierced. ;) He was 8 yrs old when we let him finally get one (he'd been bugging me for over 2 years, so we finally decided he was serious). He had zero problems, and now (at 15.5) has 4. lol

I was raised by my grandparents and so they set a strict limit of 12 for me. I also had to play for the piercing myself (which was 2 weeks pocket money at the time!) and I had to look after them.

8 years later and I've had no problems.

I got mine done when I was 5. I do remember having one infection but that was because my mom changed out my ear rings before they were fully healed. It took me longer than the standard 6 weeks apparently. After that she decided to just put in one set and leave them for a while. I had no more problems. My daughter got her's done for her 7th birthday. I left her peircing studs in for 3 months and continued to turn them daily and use the solution that the peircing place gave me for that entire time. Now we change them out about once a week. She's had zero problems. She and I both sleep in our ear rings.

DD is 6 and won't get her ears pierced until she asks AND is old enough to take care of them herself. I don't believe it's right to alter someone's body without their consent for non-medical reasons so that's why we'll wait until DD asks.
