Here are pictures that I took several weekends ago at McChord AFB for the airshow. These pictures feature the west coast F-15C Eagle demonstration team.
Now THIS is what I call a high performance takeoff! If you look closely (you can see it way better on the actual pic) you can see flames coming off of the concrete as the afterburners actually scorch it on rotation! It looks kinda pinkish/orange and is just kind of a horizontal line along a small portion of runway.
Here is the Eagle during a photo pass at full afterburner. Look at those beautiful glowing flames! Pictures never do justice for afterburners, as in real life they're impossible to miss. So bright and wonderful.
Here was the high speed pass. Now you can really see those 'burners! You can actually see shockwaves within the flame. They're called "shock diamonds" and are seen as the vertical lines within the plume. This, as I understand, is caused by the particles traveling many times the speed of sound. Speaking of sound, the Eagle has to be one of the loudest jets I've heard, and a pass like this, even as far away as they are at airshows, kills the ears! The only jet I've heard that is louder is the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet with it's F-414 turbofans.
Aaahhh, the Eagle never dissapoints. Here is the beautiful jet after its performance.
Again, I apolagize for the poor quality, the scanner I used is really just for making copies of stuff. Not really the best for detailed photos. Also the software was not very good at enhancing the scans.
Hope you all enjoyed these!
