16If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. 17All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

still sounds to me as if its referring back to the same thing as James and Hebrews. Life and death are spiritual matters. everything physical will one day pass away but the soul lasts forever either in eternal life or eternal death.

i screwed up last night. it seems like when I do one sin it spirals me out of control and i just feel like giving up altogether. i'm tired of the fear mongering. i'm tired of apprehensiveness and doubt. God needs to do a mighty work on me tonight because im real close to quitting.

one sin isn't a reason to give up. we all sin and we all mess up. the awesome thing about being a Christian though is that you've got a sympathetic mediator who is ready to forgive when you ask.

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,[e] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. - Hebrews 4

8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. - 1 John 1

the fact that you admit that you're a sinner and are remorseful shows that the Word of God is at work in your life. You just need to take these burdens to the cross and leave them there.
