Please share any tips or books that would help me (and others) for "dying to self."

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

start with John, then matthew, mark & Luke then the rest of the NT.
Underline any stuff in there that stands out as things you should be doing and after you finish each book go back and reread the stuff you underlined and think about it.
Pray everyday for christ to fill yourlife and put you on the Narrow path, ask for him to point out to you everything that needs to be crucified.
DON't be slack in giving the things up you are shown that need to be removed from your life, there will be a lot of them..... This can be quite difficult at times but you have the power of God in you to overcome the world.

Along with the bible there are two books that have truly humbled me......"The Attributes of God"
Volume one & two, the author is A.W.Tozer.
I hope you enjoy if you choice to read these book.

Humility by Andrew Murray is a short (100 pg?) book that was instrumental in my dying-to-self journey.
It explains why we need to, what the benefits are, and how to die to self.
Good luck in growing in this area. It is a fundamental concept to living out the Christian life with joy and hope.

Reading and meditating on passages in God's Word that speak about 'dying to self.' And although there are many passages, Romans 6, Galatians 5 and Ephesians are the immediate passages which come to mind . As you read and study ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to put these truths into practise in your life.
