I disagree - Its means he denied himself in every way, shape and form.

the whole nine yards - he walked in Agape !

I agree Paul did this, but I wouldn't call it dying daily and nor does Scripture.

It is actually called life in abundance. You exchange your sin-filled, sick, rotting, weak, broken, poor life for His righteous, healthy, anointing, victorious, exciting, dynamic, wealthy life.

Praise Jesus forever!!!

Just curious. Wondering if other folks have any sort of routine practice to achieve the dying to self that we're admonished to do.

For myself, I try and remember something John Owen said:

“Do you mortify? Do you make it your daily work? Be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you.”

Perhaps another good one to keep in mind:

“Let no man think to kill sin with few, easy, or gentle strokes. He who hath once smitten a serpent, if he follow not on his blow until it be slain, may repent that ever he began the quarrel. And so he who undertakes to deal with sin, and pursues it not constantly to the death.”

Other than that, a general daily striving towards greater obedience, no matter the difficulty or intimidation (not where I want to be yet, nor am I perfected in the light I do have). Sometimes it's just going out and doing it regardless what you think or feel.

The major practice by which all of this even becomes possible, as menial and routine as it sounds: Prayer! You'll never die to yourself more than you will pray.

I was just looking in a book called Prison To Praise by Merlin Carothers this morning for something else, and I found this:

'Praising God with a pure heart means we must let God cleanse our hearts from impure motives and hidden designs. We have to experience the dying to self so that we can live again in Christ in newness of mind and spirit.

Dying to self is a progressive journey and I have come to believe it is travelled only through praise.

God is calling us to praise Him, and the highest form of praise is the one Paul exhorts us to give in Hebrews 13:25 'By (Christ) therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise, to God continually that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name.'

The sacrifice of praise is offered when all is darkness around us. It is offered of a heavy heart, unto God because He is God and Father and Lord.

I don't believe it is possible to praise God in this way without having experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. As we begin to praise Him - on whatever steip of the ladder we may be, His Holy Spirit begins to fill our beings more and more.

To continually praise Him means a steady decreasing of self and an increase of the presence of Christ within us until with Peter we rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.' God bless...

The dying to self that you are talking about is this,..

Rom 8:13 for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
It involves a continual combination of things; lots of praying in The Spirit and fellowship with The Lord, worship, bible reading, fellowship around other believers, and if you are fortunate to have a good pastor,.. strong preaching.

It is "by The Spirit" that this is done, so we must do those things that involve His activity with us. The greatest aspect of those things I listed, aside from direct fellowship with The Lord, is probably fellowship with other believers since that brings a cleansing of the blood,..

1Jn 1:7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
I have 1 main church that I attend regularly but 2 others that I have started visiting throughout the week to have more fellowship and worship in the body. The results have been quite noticeable for me. Maybe others won't want to do that or apply themselves that way, but I do and have the results happening for me because of it.

Don't be fooled, it is not a thing of the mind where you believe you can appropriate it somehow, it is replacing our fleshly practices with spiritual practices that we will continue to do the rest of our time down here now. It is all a part of being conformed to the image of HIS Son so that HE can eventually operate through us for HIS glory.

Me personally, just sayin..I have found that by faith,I appropriate the new man, raised with him verses. One died, all died.I try no to fight with the old man,and try to stomp him out, because that makes him get worse.I try to walk raised,no longer I(ego).
