DVD or CD player

My component CD player just died.

I need some advice.

Do I repair it (about R450 for a new laser pick up) or replace it with a DVD player?

Also do I purchase a DVD and play it through my HiFi amp - or get the hom,e entertainement system with speakers etc.?

Replace it with the DVD Player, you can run it through you existing system.

One should never try and repair something as complex and sensitive as a Cd player by oneself. Always consult a qualified repairer. But if you don't wanna do that, just get a new thing, DVD or whatever. Its better to have a DVD anyway cos that can play CDs as well. Two for the price of 1.

I've repaired CD Players while in Junor High (Got Luckey with the problem, just a timing error on the decoder board)

IF YOU KNOW ELECTRONICS
There should be no problem with fixing it yourself, but IF you dont know electrical safey, DO NOT OPEN IT !!!

Got an expert looking at it. He says the laser pick up is broken. The unit needs to be replaced (will cost a few hundred rand).

A DVD Hi-Fi component (not for a PC - didn't know where else to post this one - I knew you guys would help though) - costs about the same (a hundred or so more).
