Hi everyone. I play Dungeons and Dragons games. Yes, the games that many Fundamental Christians believe are evil. What is your opinions of these type of games? I only play the PC games by the way. My favorite is NeverWinter Nights with both expansions.

Do you realize that they are just fantasy and that you won't be able to cast real spells by playing them? (sorry, had to plug Jack Chick's D&D paranoia. :D ) NWN rocks!

I enjoy those games as well and play them quite often. They are like anything else in life; if you allow them to become an idol in your life then they are bad. Otherwise, enjoy them for what they are...games.

LOL! Of course I know it is just fantasy! ;) I was actually looking to see if there were any Fundies on here that believe it is evil. I know that these sorts of people out there exist. :| I was going to a Southern Baptist Church for a while and they basically told me that it's ok to play it as long as I don't let it become an idol like you said forgivensinner.

The crowd that comes with them? Right... that's like saying, working is not inherently bad, but the crowd that comes with them... blah blah blah.
No it's not. Everyone has to work. Not everyone has to game. One of my friends owns a gaming store. I've been there lots, and most of the people there are opposed to Christianity, and Godly principles.

I love 'em. I played ToEE for a while, but it was too buggy... Got the new patch, and it's actually buggier, at least for me; I can't actually play it because of all the 20-second freezes with stuttering sound.
Yeah, NeverWinter Nights with both expansions seems a bit buggy for me. I have all the updates (that is unless they came out with another one in the past 3 weeks). I love the game but it does have a few bugs.

Well, guess what, most of the working population in the world is also "opposed to Christianity, and Godly principles" too

And just because everyone needs to work doesn't make it different. Fine, you don't like that? Then use internet surfing. The internet's not required for survival either. Got a similar warning there?

Statistically speaking, most of the world is *not* Christian, so of course it'll be also statistically more likeley people playing RPGs will not be Christian, especially when there's a misguided subsection of Christians who think the games are evil.

But this makes warnings about "the crowd" truly meaningless, and possibly even harmful.

Well, if most of the people gaming aren't Christians, that's a golden witnessing opportunity, isn't it?
You would think so. However, in my experience, there's an exceedingly high percentage of people who are not only unsaved, but openly and actively opposed to Christianity. I mean just dripping venom at the mention of the Bible. That's what I was getting at.

Dracil, did I hit a hot spot? Did you ever stop to think that maybe you and I have different experiences in gaming....perhaps from gaming with different crowds? Calm down. No one here is saying that you or gaming are evil. Get grip, chica.

I could see how the gaming industry could become a ministry. There are some Christian games out there but not many unfortunately. I don't own any Christian games though. You pretty much have to buy them online to get them.

That is the best idea I have read in a long time.

Acting like a normal person, and not being self righteous or cocky, just being a good example and being a fun player/DM is a way to witness.

Well, yeah.

I was one of those people once. A lot of my friends were, too.

And you know what? If you witness -- not "bash 'em with a Bible", but actually witness -- you can do pretty well with 'em.
