I loved the first book. Probably the second best SciFi book I ever read.
I struggled through the second book,
and never got past the beginning of the third.

Maybe I'm a too impatient reader for the long winded philosophical contemplations of the later books.

I usually savor those parts as mental exercises.

I mostly read fiction for the story and characters. For pure mental exercise I prefer non-fiction.
Of course I like books which go beyond pure escapism, but if the story and characters themselves can't compell me, I don't usually bother with the book. And the dragging story of Leto and Ghanima not doing much didn't engage me.
But then again, it's been ages since I read (or tried to read) the books. Maybe I should give them another chance. *shrugs*
(Although there are enough other books worth reading, so it's not high on my list of priorities.)
