Duck laid egg...

Next to my house, behind the hedge, NEXT TO THE Chicken planter! NOW what do I do?

Nothing, the duck knows what to do.

Well there are stray cats around...
I covered it with the weeds I pulled...in case the red hawk flies over... ???

I noticed the other day there was a baring of the earth... figured I'd get to it later. Well, I did.

Well the duck did it's best to build a nest there. I'd leave it alone and see what happens.

I'd be more worried about a skunk or weasel than I would cats or a red tail, although magpies are really bad about eating other birds eggs.

There's a possum around too...but generally only see him/her running the tops of the fences around 1:40 am

You could do that , too. It's possible that it's not even a fertilized egg.

Okay, well, if it is from a wild duck and not one of your own, I would just leave it be. She may come back to lay more (they don’t lay all the eggs at once).

Of course she would. I'm the one who complained when the former Chinese neighbors would feed them in their yards because the poop is soooooo greasy and green... (they did it to be able to catch them to eat, btw).

Well, how do I know what has happened or hasn’t happened in the past? Your OP did not go into any significant detail.

In any case, it’s up to you what you do or don’t do with the egg.
