Not really a drum solo, but Ray Cooper's accompaniment with Sir Elton John on Indian Sunset is gorgeous. Such a sad song (no pun intended) though.

As a drummer I don't know how I missed this thread! Very nice.

I like drummers who are technical but also know when to keep it simple. A good drummer isn't afraid to be straightforward and keep things subtle. Larry Mullen, Jr. has always been a favorite of mine because he's not flashy yet he's a powerful and incredible drummer. I can't think of anyone else who could have come up with the militant beat of Sunday Bloody Sunday. I'm also a big fan of Stewart Copeland and Pete Thomas, whose drumming for Elvis Costello, especially his early stuff, is simply incredible.
