• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think My Dr. has made me sicker by prescribing me the meds for bipolar. I dont know whats worse, being manic or this empty shell of a person that cant feel, or hold a job for more than 3 months and who's life is regulated by many pills everyday. When will it end?? when will I be like I was before I was diagnosed?? I never asked for this, I never wanted to be bipoal, I wish I never went on the meds, My mind is altered for ever, Drs. are the biggest drug pushers out there, and I'm the guinnea pig. ...I just want it to end.

I know what you mean, been there done that!

Try E.C.T. before you cop out, it greatly benefited me, were medications didn't work, afterwards the meds worked better as well.

Honestly well worth considering!

It sounds like you are frustrated and discouraged. I have been there many times. Unfortunately, mental health and psychopharmacology are not exact sciences. It often takes many months of trial and error before a doctor and patient find the right combination of medications that work and stablize a patient. It did for me several times.

Do not give up. Stay in constant communication with your psychiatrist. Make sure you are in individual psychotherapy as well. Journal your behaviors and moods, and share that with your doctor so that you can identify key times of the month/year when you are most vulnerable to shifts in your moods. Medication and symptom management can be learned and successful if you are willing to work at it.

I am both a patient and a therapist, so I understand how hard it is to deal with the moods and the fallout from the meds. But, I can assure you that once you find the right combination of meds, and stablize, you will feel much better.

Good luck.

Ive been on this combination of meds for a few years now, they have worked great..until now..I'm just saying how do we know they are safe. In the 60's or 70's in Canada the Gov't gave patients LSD as an experiment. What if I'm an experiment??? no one knows. The Dr. writes in chicken scratch that no one can read, maybe he puts a scribble or a dot at the end and that means the "special" meds ? I dont know, I'm just not sure and I dont know what to do. I dont want to take anything that makes me sicker, I dont trust anyone but my mom and husband.

I was on a certain combination of meds that worked great for years, and then all of a sudden I sank into the pits of a depression. We had to switch one of my meds..

As for experiments, it is illegal for them to experiment on people in the U.S. without the person's willing participation. They do all sorts of blind studies with people who willingly are part of the study, before a medication is marketed. They cannot give you something experimentally if you are unaware of it.

Yes, there are some meds that are later found to be unsafe. That has occurred. That is why it is so important that you stay in constant communication with your psychiatrist and also make sure you trust your psychiatrist.

You need to discuss these fears with your doctor as well. Be totally honest about all of your fears and paranoia.

Good luck.
