I got mine when I was 18 but I have only ever driven with the driving instructor in the car... its sooooooo expensive to insure a car if you are under 21 in England, then add on cost of petrol and maintenance that its not worth having one at the minute. I think I might invest in one when I graduate next year and move away from the city.

Got my learners at 18 but I haven't upgraded it since.
I really have no need for a car as I live close to everything (uni, town/malls) and just walk/bus everywhere.
I'll upgrade to restricted when I feel like it haha. I do have one friend who's been on his learners for the past 7 years but he hasn't once been booked/fined by the cops.

I got mine at 17 - that's the law in NJ, though I know you can get it at 16 in most states.
