Oh.I agree! That last thing the church needs is a virus outbreak
caused by cramming people into confessional booths in close quarters.
The more people can keep their distance, the better.
Ahhhhhh-Chooo!
.................................. God bless you my child.
I’m sure they turn the vehicle off while confessing, etc.Do people wait in their cars with the car running like an actual drive-through?
Yes, I understand the reason now. That’s what I meant. I personally see it as an act of mercy. I do not know what else the Church is supposed to do during this time while trying to curb the spread of the virus.
I understand what you mean now. No it’s not the norm. Things will go back to normal after the virus has been contained.Oh.
So it's only due to the virus?
If so, thanks for the info.
(thought it might be a new procedure).
Thanks M.I understand what you mean now. No it’s not the norm. Things will go back to normal after the virus has been contained.
Oh I agree. It won’t be forever.Thanks M.
I'm happy it's temporary....
Well your vision would be wrong.I 'm getting a visual of a person rattling off a list of sins through the speaker menu and then being told to pull around to the second window for the penance. The church could always set up a cell phone confession but the NSA might be listening in.
Like my priest said recently - it’s not the Lent we want, but it’s the Lent we have. Seeing the churches closed is one of the most surreal parts of this.Oh I agree. It won’t be forever.
A very strange Lent it been!
I'll certainly grant that a drive through wouldn't be the most inspiring venue, but will defend to the death the fact that it would be just as sacramentally valid as a confession made anywhere else in the world.I find drive thru confessions rather horrifying because it seems to be a cold
procedure and does not have any of the sacramental qualities to it.
I didn't say it wouldn't be valid.I'll certainly grant that a drive through wouldn't be the most inspiring venue, but will defend to the death the fact that it would be just as sacramentally valid as a confession made anywhere else in the world.
It seems to me that the fundamental, most signficant quality of a sacrament is that it is a means by which we receive supernatural grace, and if it's valid then it does that.I didn't say it wouldn't be valid.
I said it would lose the qualities of a sacrament...
A phoned-in confession is not valid. For instance,,,would you be in agreement with a phone-in confession?
Confession is like speaking to God....God doesn't work well in a drive-thru.
It requires some personal talking to each other...
Some thinking...some discussing.
Sure.@GodsGrace101 I think you answered your question with this:
Jesus Christ is our High Priest and you can talk/pray/confess to Him at any time.
Two entirely different things. Don’t play dumb.I didn't say it wouldn't be valid.
I said it would lose the qualities of a sacrament.....
Absolution might still be valid --- I'm assuming most priests are agreeing to this.
For instance,,,would you be in agreement with a phone-in confession?
I mean, why even continue with this....
it's only due to the virus and this will soon end.
YupWhat needs to be explained? A priest can hear a person's confession anywhere, anytime. So why not make it easier and safer than standing in line inside the church?
Frankly I see no significant difference between confessing in your car seat and confessing in a chair in a room.
Confession can be received anywhere. Today because of the pandemic, this will protect people from being infected.I don't find the pandemic horrifying...
and I live in Italy.
We should take very good care of ourselves, now especially...
but other than that, the time comes to die and it will come.
I find drive thru confessions rather horrifying because it seems to be a cold
procedure and does not have any of the sacramental qualities to it.
