@Michie started a thread about a church diocese shutting down drive-thru confession.

Could any Catholic person here please explain this to me?
I'm rather horrified to be honest.

This should not be possible or allowed.

Thanks.

I hope you do not take this personally @GodsGrace101 we are not allowed to discuss this here if I am not mistaken. Maybe we could have it moved to a more appropriate forum. :sorry:

Why? What does location have to do with it?

Read the SOP here. I’m a bit confused by it too but it is what it is. I was thinking maybe moving it to Denomination Specific Theology. Even though the RCC is not considered an denom, the op could freely discuss it there.

I'll go ahead and move the thread for you to this area.

I’m just curious...why would this be horrifying during a pandemic?

Thanks Dave...
I reposted here because I'm not allowed on the Catholic Forum....
but I would like to discuss this....
I don't live in the states and have never heard of this
and do not agree with this procedure.

Why? What does location have to do with it?
You know,,,,it's not like going to McDonald's and ordering up something.
Confession is like speaking to God....God doesn't work well in a drive-thru.
It requires some personal talking to each other...
Some thinking...some discussing.

How does it work at a drive thru?
Does the person have a list of sins?
Do they have any relationship with the priest?
Do they really care to have a true confession?

I don't find the pandemic horrifying...
and I live in Italy.
We should take very good care of ourselves, now especially...
but other than that, the time comes to die and it will come.

I find drive thru confessions rather horrifying because it seems to be a cold
procedure and does not have any of the sacramental qualities to it.

Do you approve of it?

I agree! That last thing the church needs is a virus outbreak
caused by cramming people into confessional booths in close quarters.
The more people can keep their distance, the better.

Ahhhhhh-Chooo!

That’s what I meant. I personally see it as an act of mercy. I do not know what else the Church is supposed to do during this time while trying to curb the spread of the virus.

Personally, I think the pix is pretty funny and the idea pretty bad.

If someone can't get out of their car and wait in a quiet, serene place and maybe pray a little before,,,then I don't know what sacrament means ....
That link was sort of a prank from 2018 before a papal visit.
