Is it ok to drink as long as you don't get drink?

I would say yes as long as you don't get drunk. Just like gluttony. You can eat as long as you don't do it excessively. I'm not sure totally but that's what i think as far as i can tell.

Always a tricky question, bound to get heaps of answers for this one ranging from 'no absolutly not, what a heathen practise, is from satan etc' to 'of course it's fine, go get sloshed etc'. As for my 2 cents I follow Jesus's example, I drink alcohol, usually wine on a special occasion such as christmas, nice dinner etc. If I'm with a friend who doesn't think christians should drink I don't cause I know it can offend them (like Paul says not to use your freedom to cause offence). I think it is a cultural issue, I lived in a christian community in europe for a while and everyone drank alcohol, but I understand in north america it is more conserversal. But for teenagers you should follow the law and not drink until you are legal allowed, if you decide to. Also teenagers usually have a different view of alcohol than adults (ie, drink to get drunk), so that also needs to be though about.

Assuming that you are of legal age and do not get drunk, you would not be sinning by consuming alcohol. However, if you are under age and/or your parents forbid you to drink, that is a different matter.

I agree that if it is done in moderation only on occasion, then it is not wrong.  If it becomes an addiction or the basis for your social life, then it is wrong.  If it hinders your witness, then it is wrong.  Unfortunately, in the US, drinking is not immediately related to drinking one or two with a good dinner, but instead is related to drinking 11 or 12 on friday night and making an idiot of yourself only to be miserable the next day.  With that visual in mind, it is easy to see why many Chistians would consider it wrong.

I think it's best just to stay away from alcohol. It's to easy to become addicted. I've seen it with so many people. Alcohol in NOT a good thing even in moderation. My brother in law drinks only on occasion and only one or two, but the second life gets rough it becomes a problem. I've seen it destroy so many lives.

Sin kills you, no matter how you commit it. How many lives and families have been destoryed by TV? Cars? Governments? or even Fathers and Mothers who weren't drunks?

Many.

Romans 14 addresses this issue fully and anyone who cannot accept it teaches falsely. Check it out for yourself. You don't need anyone to explain it for you. It is VERY clear.

I agree, it is mostly a cultural issue.

Drinking is okay as long as you do not get drunk. "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery..." Ephesians 5:18. In 1 Timothy 3:3 it says "not given too much wine...". Further down in chapter 5:23, Paul instructs Timothy to "stop drinking only water,and use a little win because of your (his) stomach and your (his) frequent illnesses." Finally, if drinking was totally wrong, why would Jesus turn water into wine in the first place?

I dont think we will find a verse within the Scriptures that says "Never drink alcohol"......there are some things that arent directly dealt with within the confines of the Bible. It does say, as Iohankuo gave us from Ephesians 5:18; "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery (moral corruption)." Paul then goes on to say "Instead be filled with the Holy Spirit" Christ gives us a better high, and drunkeness associates us with our old way of life.

In 1 Tim 5:23 it seems as though it is a matter of health issue, and not giving Timothy advice on how he should drink

Jesus used wine at the Last Supper saying this was his blood to be shed for us. We were to remember Jesus through the celebration of wine and bread communion. Later on, however, people were misusing the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11:17-32) by getting drunk among other things.


Even though some things are not directly spelled out in the Scriptures, the Bible is our authority on how we should live and we are able to have insight to Scripture as believers by the Holy Spirit as our guide. The Holy Spirit will convict and comfort us as it teaches us. The Bible shows us how we are to live in a way pleasing to God. I do not think by drinking you will be in sin, but the way you drink and why you drink CAN be sinful.

I believe drinking is okay as long as its done in moderation, you know New Years eve, Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings and so on....
Keeping in mind not to drive after drinking

Me, I'm a little young to drink, but I don't plan to drink, even when I'm allowed. I know it's possible to drink without getting addicted, but I just don't want to even go that direction. My personal preference. I don't think it's evil to drink a little alcohol, but I choose not to.

Well let us let the BIBLE Speak. These verses are pretty simple (verses from KJV):
Is it a sin to get drunk?
1 Cor. 6:10
"Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Can I drink without getting drunk, or is it a sin to drink (period)?
John 4:46
"So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum."
This is about Jesus turning the water into wine...now would Jesus do such a thing, if it were a sin to drink?
1 Tim. 5:23
"Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."
Paul advised Timothy to "use a little wine"...

Are there times when I shouldn't drink, even though it's not a sin?

"It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak."

The only acception to this is when the government is making you do something contrary to the Word of God...Acts 5:29.
"Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men."

I agree with Christin on this one. It's wise just to stay away. There is no reason to drink at all. It doesn't even taste good IMO. A great way to resist temptation is to avoid putting yourself in a situation where you will be tempted.
