  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's true that the bible never says not to drink, but it does command us not to be drunk, and warns against the dangers of drunkenness.

I have no problems with having a glass of wine with a meal... but I never have more than 1 to 1.5 glasses.

It also depends on who you are with and what's going on in their lives. If someone in your family or friends has an alcohol problem, then you need to be sensitive to that and not drink anything around them. Also, if anyone feels strongly convicted from God not to drink, then you also need to not drink around them (or talk about it) because that could cause a brother to stumble. Paul always said that it doesn't really matter what you eat or drink, but it REALLY matters if what you are doing is causing a rift in your Christian community, so we need to be really careful about that.

Also, if you feel that you have had a problem with drinking in the past and that it will hinder your life and/or your spiritual life, then you need to abstain.

My husband is an alcoholic so I don't care for it.
Alcoholism is such a destructive affliction. I too, was an alcoholic/drunkard and the Lord delivered me from this bondage 20+ years ago. I still thank Him everyday from saving me from physical destruction in this life and eternal damnation in eternity.

I know that the diligent prayers of loved ones were answered regarding my alcoholism. My father, who went home to the Lord, told me he prayed for me 3-4 times a day the last 2 years of my pathological drinking. I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for my father's prayer on my behalf. When one is in bondage someone must stand in the gap for that person.

I have had the privilige to counsel/minster to individuals that suffer from addiction and in the treatment center we had a saying, I belief - "As long as their is life their is hope, that they might recover".

16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so God can heal you. When a believing person prays, great things happen.
The Holy Bible : New Century Version , containing the Old and New Testaments. 1991 (Jas 5:16).

I agree with the many replies that say that drinking alcohol by itsself is not a sin -- the sin is in overindulgence. However, we must always be cognizant of the fact that our drinking may be a stumbling block to unbelievers or new Christians. I have chosen not to drink alcohol. I have also given up tobacco use as well. I have done many things in my past that were a stumbling block to non-believers -- I'm not going to do them now. This is an area where we must pray and listen to what God says to each of us.

Always be ready! <><

Hi, The reason I'm against drinking is there no good that come from drinking. I have family that is Catholic and know other non-Catholics that drink everyday and it doesn't do anything good for them health wise. I was raised around these people for 38 years so I know what going on in these churches. Drinking to get drunk is a sin. I think when churches say nothing about people getting drunk is the same is saying it's ok to do it. I might getting trouble form Mods for saying this but it's true.

Robert.

I doubt that you would get in trouble for speaking the truth.
I don't care for drinking myself.
