  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a college student, and I drink for pleasure now and then. Is that bad?

P.S. I am drunk right now. But I just am so intimate with my personal feelings, that it doesnt' matter. I love everyone here!

Hello to all my brothers and sisters! I hope you find everlasting peace. I think of you as my family.

lol youre crazy and we love you too

i used to get drunk at parties or with friends in college and in high school but not all the time... i think its okay to enjoy it just as long as you can still control yourself... its a judgment call... like i refuse to drink anything right now because of the babies...

That's interesting.

But his quote at the last supper seems to indicate that Jesus did drink wine ...unless he was talking about grape juice ...

glo

He didnt drink anything from the fruit of the vine, this includes grapes. During the last supper, I dont think he drank or ate, he passed the bread and wine to the apostles.

Thank you for your reply. :)

Jesus clearly surrounded himself with people who did drink alcohol, and he even went as far as turning water into wine.

What exactly makes you think Jesus never drank wine? It's just that I have never heard of this before ( and neither have I ever given it any thought ...)

Jesus was a nazirite, a person who totally dedicates his life to God. Nazirites were forbidden to eat or drink from the fruit of the vine (grapes), they also never cut thier hair or beard, no blade was to touch their head. So its safe to assume Jesus had long hair and a beard.

Thank you.
Not knowing anything about yoga or Hindu pracices myself, can you tell me what exactly these listed things mean in relation to the consumption of alcohol/getting drunk?

Peace

My post was more an answer to his second question, but I would say that getting drunk probably hinders the practice of all of those qualities! One of the yamas is avoiding impurities physically and psychologically and I'm certain alcohol is part of that.

So

Is it okie to take drugs in moderation ?

Do you use mouthwash, cough syrup, or toothpaste? Everything we consume has impurities, and most everything we eat has poisons. In small amounts, that's why eating a lot of anything can potentially kill a person or give them cancer.

That's why fasting is so cool. It purifies your body, so is exercise. When you exercise, the poisons in your body are being sweat out. Also if you drink a lot of anti oxidants, you urinate all your poisons out. That is why Apple juice, and mango juice make you really dehydrated, basically what they do is flush out your bodily fluids. Hence staying hydrated, exercising and drinking anti oxidants, is very healthy for the body. Plus if you throw in a balanced diet and healthy sleep cycle, we will almost be healthy and fit all the time. Our bodies would be really strong. Even though this isn't a lot of work, people are too lazy (including myself) to maintain this. Hence we die off at the age of 70-90 ish :p

These same poisons cause cells to go corrupt and stop reproducing. When more and more of your cells stop reproducing, you start to notice a person's aging (wrinkles, muscle deteriation, health effects). But if you see the same person who maintained their health, even though they might be older than someone, they can seem younger. Our bodies have the potential to live a long long time, it's just everything we eat has poisons, hence we usually die off before a hundred years.

Sounds good, maybe I should start doing that :)

Now I understand the practices of a nazirite.
But I still don't understand how you know that Jesus was one?

That's interesting, alcohol serves as a catalyst for the unleashing of your identity. Don't let it become a crutch.

Well think of it as something that calms my nerves. Normally I would think twice before approaching a person, and engaging in a conversation with them. When I am holding a beer can, buzzed, or borderline drunk, I don't think twice about meeting new people and talking to them. Even if I'm not drunk, I guess the environment itself makes it easier to socialize and mingle with newcomers and old loyal friends.

I have found this on:
www.tbaptist.com/aab/jesuslonghair.htm

"Jesus was not a Nazarite! According to Numbers 6:1-27, a Nazarite did wear long hair. However, Jesus was a Nazarene and not a Nazarite. While the two words look similar in English, they are entirely different in looks and meaning in the original language of the Bible. A Nazarene was one that lived in Nazareth, according to Matthew 2:23. A Nazarite was one who took a Nazarite vow, according to Numbers 6."

But John the Baptist was a Nazarite. This meant in special dedication to God, he would abstain from all grape products, leave his hair uncut and refrain from approaching any dead body (see Numbers 6:2-5).

So is the jury out on this?

That's an interesting link, AlHannah.
Thank you.

Seems fairly evident to me that Jesus' actions demonstrate that he was not a nazarite ...

What do you think?

Hello to all my brothers and sisters! I hope you find everlasting peace. I think of you as my family.
I spent the majority of my adult life wrestling with alchoholism. I started drinking early, before I was of age.Even when I was obviously an alchoholic,I denied it. Booze. It sneaks up on you. I drank regularly as a young man.Thought nothing of it. Some are able to drink normally, some are not.I'd say that if one builds their life more or less around their drinking, they are alchoholic. This does not necessasarily mean that one is living under the bridge. It means that they might have a hard time enjoying any activity that does not involve drinking. If in truth you see yourself described here.Step back and take a good look. You are young.Quit while your ahead. You'll save yourself a lot of misery and heartbreak.Quit now. It will never be easier.
