How do you test your dreams and visions to find out if they come from God? What dreams or visions have you had and did they come to pass?

If something contradicts scripture then it's not from God.

I've had premonition dreams probably all my life but not every night, of course. I hate that deja vu feeling during the day I will get and then remember, "Oh yeah, I dreamt that." :(

No, but I used to make interestingly accurate predictions from the dreams of other people. Although, that might have just been luck, who knows really. I was in a weird place at that point in my life.

I have had both dreams and visions that have come to pass. Mainly visions. When I say visions, I don't see pictures but rather hear a voice that tells me the future.

As an example, I always pray for our clients at work. When I was working on one of our clients websites, God spoke to me and asked me "How would I like to work for channel 9", which was a TV station in our country. It made me think that I needed to be careful when working on that website in-case it got on TV. A week or so latter, channel 9 contacted our client and asked if they would like to feature on TV. They agreed and the show went to air.

This type of thing has happened a lot. But I rarely know it is God, until it comes to pass latter. Even if I hear a voice, I don't say "Oh that was God", I just wait and see if it comes to pass, and is consistent with God's character and written word the bible.

How frequent would you say you have these "visions/dreams" compared to dreams which have themes that are never realized?

Currently I rearly ever have a vision that does not come to pass. Most do come to pass. But in terms of frequency I rearly ever have a vision. I would get one every few months. And generally only when I have been praying intently, or have been praying with others.

As an example we were praying for an end to the persecution of Christians in North Korea, at the start of this year. There were thousands praying. I had a vision of musician standing in front of the North Korean dictator. A week of so latter Dami Im and Dannie Minogue, crossed the border of North Korea (both Musicians).

So God just lets me know he is in control.

Once he let me know a famous person would die, a month latter they died young and healthy of unnatural causes.

As for dreams I don't trust dream I have too many wild ones. I have only had one dream that came to pass, or a part of it. And that was regarding the second coming of Jesus, not a date for it :) just a montage of things that would happen. I am not sure if to trust that dream or not.

I had a bit of a vision. Maybe it was down to random boltzman style fluctuations in a multiverse, meaning order spontaneously generating itself in apparently "miraculous" ways, but without actual divine intervention. The problem is theres no empirical test or otherwise, for which option (religious or not) to choose. I seem to have two options. God-did-it, or I am ultimately "just" a random occurrence (just is in scare quotes because I dont want to imply indifferentism or nihilism).

Well, the closest thing to a truly interesting and oddly correct prediction I derived from the dreams of another person is predicting that the father of an adult that supervised me at school (a man who exceeded 80 years of age) would survive the infection that many thought was putting him on his death bed.

And no, I don't just tell people what they want to hear, especially not then.

I first work out the symbols, then see how they might make sense. Usually if it's from God I either have a strong conviction about not letting go of the dream, or a continued sense of communication that He's nudging me to pursue it.

I am frequently involved in dream conversations, as we had an active forum here that was locked, and some of us have stayed in contact.

One dream that stands out -- a dark scene with my boss in a jester outfit, walking out the door and sneering, with a "Sayonara" sort of expression.

It didn't make sense logically, as my boss was incredibly committed and could juggle a thousand responsible things at once. So I just prayed for him, and for clarity. A week later, he told me he was taking a sabbatical, and needed to start quietly handing over responsibilities to others.

A few months later, he'd put me in charge of some things and was not available for me to consult with. Shortly after that, he was completely gone, and everyone who'd worked under him was at each others' throats. It really fit the picture of a circus, spite, leaving, the darkness of the unknown.

The dream helped me be supportive and unflinching.

Surrounding that job, I had many similar dreams that guided me through understanding what was going on.

Starting out, a dream that was unusual for me (also a cue that it might be from God) - being inside an old wooden boat, boarding for a trip that stranger were leading me into and giving me equipment for. Within days, I got an invitation to work overseas... and they provided everything I could possibly ask for to make the transition easier.

With each dream/vision, I wrote down each symbol and evaluated what it meant to me in real life. (Boat not just literal, but everyone traveling together in a contained vessel for the same venture... floating on seas of public support.) The dream helped me emotionally handle the drastic change.

I rarely make decisions like "This dream told me to..." but consider them information I might need to research and form wise conclusions.

Wow! The odds of that... it was probably useful for the family in planning, or in you for knowing what to say, and how to pray.

I am an atheist though, and was at the time and always. Like I said, I was in a weird place in my life.

As I said, I don't sugar coat. I did make negative predictions for people, and I am pretty sure someone who only predicts happy things is showing themselves to be fake. Do I still think I was using some supernatural phenomenon to make those predictions? No, but at the time I thought one could legitimately use dreams for that purpose. I never used mine because I took then and still take today medication which alters my dreams.

13 was a strange, strange age for me.

I've never had anything I'd call a vision. But years ago, I was on a flight to a business conference. My wife and I were closing on a house in a month, and I was thinking about homeowners insurance. The thought of an earthquake crossed my mind, and whether I should be covered for it. Since the St. Louis area is in seismic zone. My conference was in San Francisco, and the day was Oct. 17, 1989. 10 minutes after checking into my hotel room, the 7.1 Loma Prieta earthquake hit. Which collapsed part of Bay Bridge, wiped out much of the Marina District, postponed the World Series, and generally shut done the city for several days. I'm sure it was purely coincidence. But kinda eerie, nonetheless. And I did get an earthquake rider on my policy.
