  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey all!!

Lately I've been busy drawing portrets. I've never really drawn any before, so it's quiet a challenge. I was hoping for some tips and comments on my work so far :).

I've finished one portret of Orlando Bloom from Pirates of the Carribean, and I will post more portrets of other people as time goes by. Lol, I'm not really sure if I'm finished with this one, since I keep finding myself picking up my pencil and adjusting little details, but here it is anyway.

Btw, if anyone wishes to share their own portret drawings, you're more than welcome ^_^ !

I just finished a portret of Jessica Alba, but my scanner made it a whole lot lighter than it really is. The origianal is a lot nicer, and I'm quiet pleased with it. The proportions are a lot better than with Orlando, but you can't tell. I had to draw her lightly, because the photo example was strongly lit. But because of that, the scanner won't pick up any of the lighter shading, but only the dark lines which makes the whole appearance look a bit sandish and harsh :sigh: .

Hey all!

Thanks for the comments! I love hearing what people think of my drawings, and if anybody has any tips I would love to hear them too!

I've drawn a few more portrets. I've improved quiet a bit since that first portret two weeks ago.

I'll post them in order :).

This is another drawing of Kristen Kreuk. I reckoned this photo would be amazing to do in charcoal. At first I thought it would be difficult to draw, but it turned out to be rather easy. I was particularly pleased because I started with the charcoal immediately without doing any pencil sketchings, and the last time I ever used charcoal was when I was 10 years old, haha :D .

Very nice! For someone who hasn't really done any before you're doing quite well indeed. Have you drawn other things in the past and just trying portraits now, or is this all you've done? I'd love to see more if you have some.

I used to draw portraits, too, but I haven't done any for years. A couple techniques I used when drawing them was to use some blending tortillions to give the face a smooth texture and I also used kneaded erasers to add highlights as well as to do the hair. Have you tried anything like that or do you just use a pencil?

This is Aishwarya Rai, a famous Bollywood actress :) .
All I can say is you're very good! I draw and paint myself and have been for 20 years. The hardest part about portraits is proportions. On Aishwarya Rai your drawing looks great but there is something a little off. The right eye and the right corner of her mouth aren't lined up to each other, but I'm sure that's due to the smile she is showing. That little "dip" on her upper lip isn't lined up with the tip of her nose, just very slightly off. Other than that it looks great. GREAT JOB! :)

Hi there  !

I used to draw a lot when I was little, but I stopped when I was 11 or so. I just started drawing again when I made that first portret (Orlando Bloom).

On all the drawings I only used pencil. I recently bought myself a kneaded eraser and every singel shade of pencil I could find :D. I'm hoping to try some different techniques with those.

I tried to post them, but the pictures turned out way too big. >_< How do you make them into small thumbnails?

I don't know :sorry: ...

I just posted them as attachments, and then they turned out like that. Perhaps you could try editing them in Paint? I think you can change the sizes of pictures somehow...

Hope to see your work ^_^!

Yeah! Proportions are really difficult.
I also saw that Aishwarya Rai wasn't perfect, even though the overall look of the drawing is nice. The photograph I was using was lit from above, and she was looking up, smiling. I thought it would be easy to draw her, and she was with the shading, but the proportions were difficult. I couldn't quiet capture the same look as on the photograph, and I believe it was because of her mouth.

It's just annoying you always see those things AFTER you're done, haha :D .

Thanks for the tips though  !
