  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The church that I attend does not use any of the responcive (?) readings in the hymnals, or the doxology.

However the church that my grandparents attend still use the doxology (atlest the last time that I was there they did) and they did it right after the offering.

My church has done it a few times and I don't really like it but I'm in the praise band and we play a contemporary version...I don't know if anybody has recorded it like this or anything but I have heard it a few times...maybe charlie hall or David Crowder might have recorded it...you might want to check around for that...

I just looked through my mp3s and there is a version of it by david crowder that is tight as all get out...its on Passions: Hymns Ancient and Modern cd...

When we play it my friend sings and plays acoustic, I play electric with a ebow, a doo-dad that keeps the string moving for infinate sustain...and then we either have a dejembe or something like that...and its awesome!

We have Doxology after every offerings but, they've changed the lyrics and the rythm as well...it goes:

We give Thee but Thine own
Whatever the gift may be
All that we have is Thine alone
A trust O Lord of Thee
Amen

but, at the Sunday school, we'll sing the normal doxology

I go to a Non-Denom, Spirit Filled Church. Growing up I went to a Church of God and had never heard of the doxology until we moved here (NC).
Our church sings the doxology after offering, although I doubt it sounds anything like it would sound in most churchs. I guess we do a more contempary version of it.
The words are the same, just the speed and sound are different.

"Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Prais ehim above all Heavenly Hosts
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.....Amen"

Making the melody, speed, etc different does not affect the message of the song. In case anyone does not this this one at all, here is how it sounds when song in a tradition manner (althouth some might think this version is a little fast):

My church is an Evangelical Free Church. We have a blended service (though I don't believe most "Free" churches do anymore), so we do the Doxology on occasion, normally segue from a fairly large hymn, almost like a special ending to it.

When I was growing up, my church used to sing the Doxology every Sunday. I'm not exactly sure why they quit singing it, but I've got it memorized by now and can play the melody on the piano without the music, too. I picked it out one Sunday after church just because I felt like it.

We no longer sing it, though, except sometimes as a prayer before a meal.

In many traditional UMCs you will hear the Doxology sung after the offering, as the ushers take the offering plates up and place them on the altar. In my experience it is in declining use in the UMC and I miss it.
