What do you guys think about downloading games off torrents and such for free?

Do you think it is a sin to try them out and if you like it, go out and buy the game?

I do it, but my compromise is that I have bought so many bad games and never got my money back that it is ok to download some and play them.

Many (especially to tier) games offer free demos to try. Any game worth real consideration is reviewed my multiple organizations and many of those are now posted as video reviews with gameplay footage. Add to that, companies that rent games at very reasonable prices (like $2.00), and there is no reason to steal a game.

Not to mention if you are patient, you can wait 'till new games are under $20.00, and many used games are under $10.00.

I always love how people try to defend themselves by trying to talk themselves into thinking they aren't doing something wrong when they copy music, movies and software. It may not be theft in the traditional sense, but it's still theft. No matter how many times you try to convince yourself otherwise, it's still a form of theft.

Taking anything that is meant to be paid for without paying for it is theft. Plain and simple.

That being said, there is nothing that companies can really do about it because people are now of the mind that they don't need to pay because so many other people are, so what is one person? This is causing more and more grief because companies are implementing more and more dumb DRM and security into games which make the games more unplayable or a pain in the butt to even start. You're seeing more games not being able to even be played without having an internet connection to verify via a security server. Granted, most of it is still easy enough to get around for some of these coders, but the days of this are limited as the security gets dumber and requires things like constant connection.
