• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have had some doubts about my dyslexia/dyspraxia before but now i am becoming more and more convinced that do not have it.

The only things i can see relating to dyslexia i may have are:

Visual sensitivity (possibly relating to Irlen's syndome) and concentration issues (which may also be Irlen related).

Otherwise all my other sysmptoms, whch im told is typical of dyslexia - for example my inability to write well, organisational skills, are like most other non-dyslexic people. Most people i have spoken to, internet or otherwise report similar problems yet they are known NOT to have dyslexia!

I can read - read well (ish) I don't have typical characteristic of dyslexia when reading, the words do not "move" I fact they are still - im just aware of patterns in the text, black text may appear red from time to time in brighter lights (for all i know all this is normal) and i can't concentrate. If i am dyslexic it's very mild and probably not worth considering - though i was diagnosed with moderate.

And dyspraxia - i am mildly clumsy but have some form of co-ordination, i can tell left from right and have average balance.

I know i have an official report telling me i have these things but i dunno - something doesn't add up...

Also most people from time to time will experience the symptoms that we have. A non dyslexic thats extreamly tired will temporarilly have comprehension issues when reading, the left/right confusion is very common amoung non dyslexics but doesn't mean that they are dyslexic themselves.

The difference between non dyslexics and us dyslexics is that we have these symptoms on a practically daily thing. Even the most successful coping mechanism will stumble if we're really stressed and then all the classic symptoms show themselves.
